So... I was leaving for work and got halfway up the road and realised I'd forgotten something so had to go back to my house.

Our green and blue bins are left out on the pavement as with everyone else on our road but I noticed a lady who was walking up to each one and on some of them marking them with a tiny torn off piece of white label that she was sticking over the letters 'Co' on the words 'Southwark Council'.

I walked past where she had been and not every single bin had been marked but about half had. Does anyone know why? I would never have noticed the little tiny label if I hadn't saw her putting them on there.

EDIT: I would have asked but I was super late and I suppose it only really started to confuse me later in the day.

    • Fired Earth as a whole went into administration unfortunately - doesn't seem to have been a Dulwich problem specifically. Does anyone know how much the rent is for these Dulwich Village storefronts?
    • It is most likely gas, with what looks like a stop cock, and although the pipe may well have been isolated later from the supply you should get in a gas safe engineer to remove it. At worst it might need to be capped off beneath the floor boards. Don't interfere with it yourself.
    • Sorry, I know this isn't strictly an East Dulwich topic but as there are so many late-Victorian properties in the area I wondered if anyone has seen anything similar in their house and can advise. We have what looks like an old gas outlet on the back wall of our daughter's bedroom which we'd like to remove, but we weren't sure whether it's safe to do so. Do I just call a registered gas engineer to check it out? And is it definitely a gas outlet or might it be something else? It's at floor level so maybe electricity but it doesn't look like any electricity outlet I've ever seen! Has anyone had any experience of dealing with something similar?
