Hi there, has anyone heard of this, or better still done it themselves? I'm writing a feature about older parents who are house swapping with their kids who have growing families but can't afford a bigger property... the parents have all family off their hands so are happy to downsize, so the two generations swap houses. Has anyone done this? thanks

Not something I have come across in London, but my brother and his family (in Finland) are in the process of swapping with his MIL for similar reasons.

His FIL passed away a couple of years ago and his MIL feels the house has become too big for her. She would prefer a smaller (cosier) city apartment so has asked them for a swap. It means they can move to the countryside (near a beach and lots of parks) with their son and she can get closer to the city - to her workplace and friends.

Happy to get you connected if it'll be of any help.

    • @Sue that makes sense as its pretty tiny for eat in..we live down the road so can get lucky with walk-ins. Their phone number is 0208 291 4423 here's their website https://www.matoom.co.uk/ I just LOVE the food there
    • We’re pretty much down to just sparrows, wood pigeons and the occasional great tit.  Plus parakeets, but I chase them away.    A couple of years ago we had bluetits, robins, blackbirds & goldfinches most days, but almost never now despite washing out the bird bath most days & decent regular bird seed & fat balls.  we have had a couple of sparrow hawks which was exciting, but I’d rather have the goldfinches..  v sad.
    • My garden has been completely empty of birds since I took down my bird feeders (I have to sort out the garden before I put them up again in a different spot.Cats were sitting in wait).
    • You need to book I think? We couldn't get a table when we tried!
