Needed: Reliable, trustworthy builder/painter/decorator

Recommended Posts

Please can anyone recommend any of the above?

We need lots of work done but mainly small jobs from clearing a small loft space and putting a new back door in to general painting and decorating.

We also need new sash windows if anyone can recommend a good company which won't bankrupt us!

Thanks for your help,

Natalie

Nick Martin is wonderful at all kinds of woodwork and finishing and a dab hand at painting and decorating - we have used his experstise for years - his # is 07969 331 996

when out builders went bankrupt 85% though a job, he came in and sorted out the mess.

oops! now amended

Just to update - whilst we went on holiday, he laid an oak floor, retiled some of the bathroom, rebuilt and extended some victorian fitted cupboards to include shelves and fixed our bath leak. I rarely recomend anyone on here, but he is on speed dial!

thanks

We need someone to paint and decorate and fill some plaster cracks- all smallish jobs (e.g.small bathroom ceiling needs scraping and re painting, corner of living room needs repapering and painting) and some other small paint jobs- but we need it done quickly -!! Victorian house near Sainsburys / Dog Kennel hill.

Thanks

Anna

    • thanks Jenijenjen and all - yes, i remember walking or taking the bus from the elephant (where i was working) to Camberwell to get there.  I think Tim - who's still at Franklin's -  was there in those days, and the woman who ran the cafe!  Other food places that i remember fondly are the ones in Neal's Yard (with the Hunkin sculpture that you could put a coin in ) and the basement lunch place at the Tottenham Court Road junction with Hanway Street...
    • Did you try the emergency number posted above? It mentions lift breakdowns over the festive period outside the advertised  times. Hope you got it sorted x
    • People working in shops should not be "attempting to do the bill in their head." Nor if questioned should they be  trying to "get to an agreeable number." They should be actually (not trying to) getting to the correct number. I'm afraid in many cases it is clearly more than incorrect arithmetic. One New Year's Eve in a restaurant (not in East Dulwich but quite near it) two of us were charged for thirty poppadoms. We were quite merry when the bill came, but not so merry as to not notice something amiss. Unfortunately we have had similar things happen in a well established East Dulwich restaurant we no longer use. There is also a shop in East Dulwich which is open late at night. It used not to display prices on its goods (that may have changed). On querying the bill, we several times found a mistake had been made. Once we were charged twice for the same goods. There is a limit to how many times you can accept a "mistake".  There is also a limit to how many times you can accept the "friendly" sweet talking after it.
