Somewhere for 5-6 to stay for w/end 25th July

My clan has had an annual gathering to compete for a Trophy for the last 17 years. This year's base camp has suddenly become unavailable leaving the organiser with a headache (not me). As two will be flying into Gatwick has anyone any suggestions of where to stay, preferably self-catering. Somewhere either towards London or not too far the other way, accessable within reason by rail. Half the group are 60 plus so it doesn't need to be child friendly (or maybe it does). Budget not to break the bank.

Any suggestions welcome at this late stage as it's currently looking like it will be cancelled.

As its just for a weekend could you not stay at an airport hotel near Gatwick? Wouldn't be self-catering though but shouldn't break the bank and it might solve your problem.
