Recommended Posts

Hi All,

We've glue guns, props cupboards, glitter, loom beads and musical instruments at the ready, gearing up ready for Nimble Arts Holiday club next week, and wanted to let you know a little more about some of the fantastic creative freelancers we have joining us! There are still have a few spaces left all days for the first week held at Heber Primary School, and you can choose whichever days you'd like to join. Workshops run 10-4 each day, with free wraparound care 8.30am - 5pm. We welcome children aged 5-11 from any school, and younger siblings aged 4 are welcome to join, but only for a maximum of four hours a day. Booking details are on our website at www.nimblearts.co.uk.

Monday 28th July: Arts and Crafts

Cartoonist Cathy Simpson (http://cathysimpsonillustration.blogspot.co.uk) will be joining us to help us create our own cartoon critters, the fabulous Lou from Captured in the Rye (http://capturedontherye.com) will be leading screen printing workshops, and Becky will be doing wonderful things with washi tape, buttons and beads... Stay for the day and do all three activities!

Tuesday 29th July: Play your Part

Actor supreme and Nimble regular Ben Neale (http://ben-neale.com) will be inviting us inside magical Caribbean folk tales in a day of imaginative theatrical immersion.

Wednesday 30th July: Join the Circus

Clowns Spoon and Bott from Cobblers Theatre (http://www.cobblerstheatre.org) will be inducting us all into the world of clowning, Emily Splatt will then be teaching us juggling, and Catherine will help you make your own mini circus stage to take home with you!

Thursday 31st July: Rock Band

The day starts with an introduction to using iPads to make music, and a song writing masterclass! By the end of the day, with help from the professional musos and Nimble Band mentors, and our supplies of drums, guitars and mores, you'll have written and performed your own song (no rock experience necessary!)

Friday 1st August: Sound and Film

Over the day, you'll create your own radio show, explore sound and video using iPads, and also make an amazing animated short with professional animator Helen Piercy (http://helenanimate.com).

We're also running a week of activities at Goose Green Primary School from the 18th - 22nd August (all activities will be different!), and two musical courses, so check on the website for more details on these. Any questions about any of this, email [email protected], or call Becky on 07746728430.

    • https://www.assistancedogs.org.uk/information-hub/assistance-dogs-emotional-support-dogs-and-therapy-dogs/   hello   i’d be interested to understand if anyone.has experience of Assistance Dogs especially for autistic children of different ages for emotional support and therapy   There was a prior thread on this topic on EDF 10 hrs ago but it had limited experiences and there was a (claimed) change in UK legislation in 2019. Whilst the industry appears unregulated/unlicensed, there are several providers (approx 15, perhaps more) who claim to have fully trained dogs or say that they can help families to train a puppy/young dog over the 18-24 months.  The latter obviously comes with a need for strong commitment to the challenge. Costs for a fully trained assistance dog are quoted at £13-15k albeit they claim £23k total cost to train the dog. On the one hand, this could potentially be a useful solution for some families if such a dog was truly trained as their websites claim and such a dog was accepted in public places and schools etc… On the other hand, I don’t think that I’ve ever seen an assistance dog of this type or in this context (only for a blind or partially sighted person) and hence a real risk of fraud or exploitation! The SEN challenge for families coupled with limited resources in schools or from local authorities or the NHS as well as the extremely challenging experience of many families with schools offering little or no support or making the situation worse leaves a big risk of lots of different types of fraud and or exploitation in this area.
    • Hi there  We live on Woodwarde Road backing on to Alleyns Top Field.  Our cat Gigi has gone missing — it’s been about 24 hours now. She is a cream Bengal. Could you please check sheds, garages, or anywhere she might have got stuck please? And if you could keep an eye out or share on any local groups/forums, we’d really appreciate it. Photo attached.   Thanks so much! My name is Jeff on 07956 910068.
    • Colin.    One for the old school.   Just saying.
    • Signed, and I will share it elsewhere, thank you for posting this. It's got nearly 70,000 signatures at present, and apparently runs till February.
