DSLR Camera repair required

We are having an issue with our DSLR camera. It will take a picture and then won't take anymore and an error message comes up saying: "Err 01 Communication between the camera and lens is faulty. Clean the lens contact." We have tried cleaning it but does not seem to work so we'd like to take it to a camera repair place and wondered whether anyone would recommend anywhere local or have any other advice/tips as to what we should do?

Many thanks

Here's how to fix...

Switch camera off.

Remove the lens

Clean the contacts.

Switch on the camera with the lens removed.

Take picture. There should be no error.

Take another picture.

Turn off the camera.

Take the lens and select manual focus.

Place lens back on camera BUT DO NOT FULLY ENGAGE IT.

Leave it loose but support it so it cannot drop.

Switch on the camera and take a photograph.

The picture will be partial and may be over exposed

as the camera does not have full control of the lens.

Turn off the camera and lock the lens fully into place.

Turn the camera back on and try to take a photograph.

You should be able to take photos normally.

Select auto focus and the lens should be working normally.

Hope that works

    • Hello! We are relocating abroad and so will be withdrawing our two children (ages 4 and 6) from St Dunstan’s College (Catford). If any family is considering enrolling children of a similar age, now would be an excellent opportunity—we’re required to pay full‑term fees unless the places are taken. Please get in touch if you’re interested or know someone who might be. Thank you!

    • Hi, I saw your post and just wanted to say that the incident you’re referring to did happen in the late 1980s at Dawson’s Heights. The person involved was named Carl Salawa, and he had just turned 18 years old at the time. Like you, I haven’t been able to find any news articles or official reports about it, If anyone remembers anything more about that time or incident, I’d really appreciate hearing about it. Thanks for sharing what you were told—it means a lot to know others remember.
