No thanks mate, you'll never see me in living in Blighty again. But the EDF kind of transcends the old woman doesn't it? It has an ethereal personality that renders borders meaningless.

Even ED issues - the gossip, water shortages and recycling - are macro issues really: the conversation could take place anywhere. Perhaps signposting issues are a condensation of more metaphorical issues facing society? ;-)

To insist that I crave ED as a consequence of my presence in these esteemed pages is illogical in that light, it would be like saying you want to live in Manchester if you read the Guardian?

I live vicariously on this thread, experiencing all the excitment, but none of the inconvenience.

Regardless, here it is warm, and I am happy. :) Off to Laos in two weeks time, just back from Borneo...

Hugsy:

Oh! Please!

I've spent mucj of the last few months experiencing more aspects of one of the 2 most vibrant and stimulating Cities on Earth:

Ladeez and Genelmen: I give you LONDON TOWN!!

Whatever you want)can't do the exotic or mountains-Sorry!) its here in abundance. The variety is amazing and its realistically impossible to see all of it in one lifetime, which I'll never achieve.

However, living on the edge of Londinium its so easy to reach and enjoy the pleasures of the truly Beautiful(and green!) English Countryside as well.Next week my walking partner isback from Hamilton,Canada and we will go to The Seven Sisters,South Downs. The air will be crisp and envigorating.

Spring is around the corner and a walk thru' the English Meadows with its multitude of Bluebells and wild primroses is a wondrous experience so trust me "Perfidious Albion" or "Blighty" still has a great deal to offer.

I'm nearly 55 and never been so excited or stimulated about life!>:D<

Hey! Kel Baby! "Misunderstanding"B)...

p.s.I know you didn't,its just a Ladyfeiend who I stayed with the other night is 30 and she was making subtle remarks about our age, which funnily enough, has always been the age gap since I first met her in Sunny Peckham many moons ago;-)

EVERY age has its compensations KK!

"30" for me was like well,"20"/"40" even "50" I could go where and when I wanted to.

"30"??..Downside?..I was still "wet behind the ears" for my age and not assertive enough.Did not realise that besides all the multitude of good people there are(many I had met) thee were a multitude of "bad" lurking round the corner, reasy to pounce.

Example:Car Theft. When I was 24/30-I had my cars stolen a few times thru' bot taking sufficient care where I parked.

The last 25 years of driving in and around London there have been no bad experiences as I'm VERY careful to give myself "the best possible chance of my car NOT be stolen" Locks/Nothing visible/No side turnings etc.

What brought me to my senses 25 years ago was when my car was stolen in Streatham.I,personally looked round the Housing Estates of Brixton the next day and found it(!) called the "A.A." and the Estate had only ONE entrance/exit so if the thiefs came back we were trapped reclaiming my own car! The A.A Guy CARRIED AN AXE,I kid you not as he had many unpleasant experiences on that patch!.Got out of their a.s.a.p. and vowed to be more careful.

One lives and hopefully learns:(

Well its possibly not recommended in the A.A.Handbook(available at all good stores) but "back-up" might be needed circa 2009!(this was in the quiet Early 1980's?)

They tell you to stay by the vehicle!!!:))..once I saw it parked in the deepest part of The Estate with only one way in/out I was "out" of there quick-time and waited in Brixton Police Station, I have rarely been so happy as when he fibally got the car started!(reality is,of course, they had long since gone and probably had no connection with the Estate at all, just the local dumping ground).

    • You literally just edited your earlier reply to remove the point you made about it being “politicians”.  Then you call me pathetic.    I’m  not trying to say you approve any of the ugly right wing nonsense.  But I AM Saying your earlier post suggesting  violent rhetoric being “left wing” was one-sided and incorrect
    • I never said that. Saying I don’t like some of the rhetoric coming from the left doesn’t mean I approve of Farage et al saying that Afghans being brought here to protect their lives and thank them for their service means there is an incalculable threat to women.    Anything to score a cheap point. It’s pretty pathetic.
    • To be fair we are as hosed as the majority of other countries post-Covid. The problem is Labour promised way too much and leant in on the we need change and we will deliver it and it was clear to anyone with a modicum of sense that no change was going to happen quickly and actually taking the reigns may have been a massive poison- chalice. As Labour are finding to their cost - there are no easy answers.  A wealth tax seems straightforward but look how Labour have U-turned on elements of non-dom - why? Because the super rich started leaving the country in their droves and whilst we all may want them to pay more tax they already pay a big chunk already and the government saw there was a problem.
    • You don’t think there are right-wing politicians fanning this with rhetoric? Really?
