messageRe: Duck egg

What is going on with Duck Egg lately?? I've been going since it opened and eaten there loads and loads of times. The service has always been questionable - but the last time I went in there I had to wait ages, got a luke warm breakfast (bubble and squeak) which was the first time I hadn't enjoyed what I'd been served, pretty disappointed.

Not to be put off I went back today and as I was by myself, asked for a table for one. Ignoring all the nicely placed empty tables, they suggested I sit on a table shoved in the corner facing away from the rest of the customers, looking at their fridge!!! I asked to sit at one of the multiple empty tables (some for two which I find an acceptable request). And was told that they were 'saving' all these tables for customers of more than one as they had queues out the door last week.

It was half empty!!

I walked out -- after being a loyal customer for years I'm pretty shocked!!! Eating alone is something I enjoy but it's also quite an effort for some people. You shouldn't be shoved in a corner just because you are a party of one.

    • To be fair, a pot of tea for one in a department store is a small pot, and you only get one cup or mug!
    • I know - we have been here lots of times since it first opened,  which is why we were disappointed that it was closed at a time it was supposed to be open, but with no notice to say why! I guess we will just  have to ask the reason at our next visit, but I'm not sure we will risk Saturday lunchtime again unless we find the closure  was an unavoidable one off ....
    • Nope. I don’t have this wrong. I’ve tried to put my point across respectfully, without resorting to personal, angry insults. And all my colleagues agree that the BBC got this right in its condemnation.    All you see is confirmation bias.    If you don’t realise that, then you’re part of the problem.
    • We have always gone during the week at lunch time - great place and good value. Husband has been several times on his own and owner knows his first name. I could not go one time for some reason and she sent him home with some spring rolls (free)
