Hi,

I imagine mums and dads of 3/4year olds up and down the land have just had a month of open days and tours crammed into their diaries!

Any thoughts or views you would like to share?

I had great impressions from Bessemer Grange, Heber, and st John's. I am still waiting my turn for Goodrich (which isn't until December!) Unfortunately missed opportunity to attend the new Belleden Road school meetings....did anyone else get down there? I did however book a visit at the Hamlet where I was shown around by 2 very enthusiastic young lads who seemed to love their school.

Overall has been a very promising view into world of schools in Dulwich.

(The only negative being a very inexperienced member of the front of house at Goose Green Primary School. Guy called Jack. Quite abrupt nature and immature attitude. Shame to have someone like that giving the first impression of school.)

Did anyone have any other impressions or schools to add to add?

I have also had great impressions of Bessemer and Goose Green, the only ones that I have seen so far, more to come this month!

I would also be really interested to hear what people have thought of the Harris Primary School and also from any parents of this year's cohort, as to what they think so far. If anyone is happy to share their thoughts either here or by PM I would be delighted. Although over the rooftops, this will be our closest school by straight line distance.

Thanks

seconded thumbs up for Jack, it's not easy dealing with numerous children / adults clamouring for your attention at the beginning and end of the day in the office and Jack has always been calm, friendly and very helpful over the 2 and a bit years my son has been going there. Everyone can have an off day, unfortunate to have it put on the forum. We're extremely happy with G Green overall, last week my son said it was his favourite place to be and this comes from a boy who hated nursery and group activities with a passion prior to school.
Another vote of support for Jack! He's always been helpful in the four years my daughter's been going to Goose Green. Did you attend the tour this morning? There are tours for prospective parents once a month until January, I think they are on the first Wednesday of the month. Just like Bumpkin, very happy with the school!
Oh poor Jack! Always friendly and helpful to us, unpatronising to the children with whom he is super popular and I've always found him to be very laid back. He's not inexperienced, in the years he's been at the school I've never found him abrupt or immature.
@cmacnew ref your question re Harris Primary, you might be better to ask for fresh opinions on this thread http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,1400102,1401424 which might better catch the eye of current Harris parents. As for us, we're just as happy now as we were when I originally posted feedback. My son adores school and his reading / writing is coming on at a frankly unbelievable rate!

    • Another shout out for Milk & More - their app allows you to alter the order, add or subtract to it and also to schedule holiday stops without having to leave messages in bottle - so more secure. You do have to set up a direct debit with them, but I haven't had any problems with that myself. I have had one or two missed or late deliveries in several years, but not really a problem - only very occasional and caused mainly by delivery-person illness. And very much feels like an old-fashioned milk delivery. They do special seasonal offers as well. More expensive than the cheapest of the super market milk prices, but for that its at your door, fresh and no bother.
    • Enjoying the nostalgia and memories.  As with others, we get ours through Milk and More (is part of big co, so there is that against it, but it's hardly a secret/niche thing) - returnable glass bottles of milk, orange juice, yoghurt, and much more besides (as per the name). And yes it comes in the middle of the night in an electric vehicle. So can still get out nostalgia fix, doubled when the Riverford chap comes too.
    • This sounds like what goes on at Tessa Jowell GP surgery as well as others.   If you can flag yourself up as a ‘vulnerable’ patient or one that can’t use Apps for whatever reason etc then you can usually make appts by phone. They would have to make allowances. Quote the Equality Act 2010,  reasonable adjustments section.
    • Its part of a change all Doctor surgery's are undergoing.  The goverment want to stop the 8am scramble for an appointment, and its not just restricted to the Gardens. Sadly, it does impact some who are not digitally savy.
