Help Elec socket fried

Lily

Recommended Posts

Can anyone explain why the red wire in a double wall socket would fry?

Hopefully the pic attached is clear enough to explain.

I'm not sure if I can simply change the socket or if I need an electrician to check the house wiring out. It didn't trip the main fuse which trips if a light bulb goes. The only reason I looked at it was because an appliance that worked in another socket didn't in that one.

Advice and possible explanation as to how/why it happened and if I should be getting the professionals in, appreciated.

Thankyou Lily

Hi Lily,

Electrician here to offer some advice!

Looks to me the live cable was loosely connected which causes arcing. This fault wouldnt trip the breaker.

You should be able to just go ahead and change the socket, making sure you do so safely and that the connections are as tight as they can be.

Any problems you can contact me on 07943274067.
