Just saw this from Cllr James Barber:

"ED Harris Girls Academy - are planning to change their schools admissions from banding with distance from the school to banding and a lottery. Please do respond to n.francis@harrisdulwichgirls copying me if you agree with this or not and why.

We think making admissions into a lottery will damage the wider local community."

This would effectively, no longer be a local secondary school.

Just like Kingsdale.

Perhaps people will now start to understand that there is a massive downside to schools becoming Academies and therefore entirely independent of each other, with no overseeing body (such as a Local Authority) making sure that local needs are best catered for.

    • Thanks I've removed it from my original message, please can you delete yours too? As its quoting my old post that has the number in it!
    • The issue for me is about reducing damage to animals, whether wild or domestic, as well as to those humans that also suffer as a result. The sad thing is that there is a compromise available in the form of low noise fireworks- it is the apparent addiction to imposing loud bangs and other scary sounds that I find so strange.
    • I'd love it if  ED was a little bit more Denmark Hill!
    • https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cd7rg7wjvgvo I also consider what she said was racist, but worse, unnecessary designed to stir up conflict.  The advertisers are free to use whoever they want to sell their product.  I'm quite happy for them to depict multiracial Britain, or gay/trans friendly (as per London Underground), disability aware etc etc. From time to time I'll see a more traditional product where everyone in the ad is white.  So??
