Based purely on the numbers of people reading and commenting on the Ched Evans thread, there is a high statistical likelihood that some will have been affected by the subjects discussed.

I thought it might be useful to pull out and post here links to organisations that can offer help, in case anyone is interested either in volunteering or finding help:

For men living with violent partners:

For men who are newly single parents, and particularly with access to children issues:

http://www.onlydads.org/

For women living with violent partners:

http://www.womensaid.org.uk/ (they also help children)

http://www.hestia.org/ (London based charity)

For newly single women with children, including who have issues with partners:

http://www.onlymums.org/

For victims of rape:

http://www.rasasc.org.uk/ (have a south London helpline)

http://www.rapecrisis.org.uk/

(It's worth noting that if you go to a rape crisis centre, many will ask you to go into the room with your adviser alone. This is very hard for some people to do, so you need to mentally prepare for it. It is done so that your adviser can be sure that you are not being watched or coerced while you get support. You can have a friend/family member on the phone with you right up to the point when you go in if that helps. Not every centre does this, but many do.)

Personal safety related products:

    • Thanks for your feedback - we always appreciate hearing from members about their experience. The pool temperature at JAGS Sports Club is maintained at 29oC, in line with industry guidelines for mixed-use pools.  This temperature has been designed to balance comfort for lane swimmers and families. Air temperature is also monitored regularly to ensure a comfortable environment for swimmers, spectators and staff. The shower Temperature Mixing Valves (TMVs) were changed in December to improve consistency, and we hope this has made a noticeable difference. If you would like to discuss your experience in more detail, please contact us directly at [email protected] or 020 8613 6500 and we'll be really happy to help.
    • One wonders if he would have defected if he had, ahem, held on to the leadership of Southwark and whether he felt that "Labour are no longer the vehicle for social justice" during his leadership election........my how quickly things change in the thoughts of a politician 😉 I think this sums things up quite nicely: A senior Southwark Labour spokesperson hit back: “Local residents can draw their own conclusions about Cllr McAsh’s swift move from Labour leadership hopeful to the Green Party, after he didn’t get his own way. While he’s thinking about his own career, Southwark Labour are delivering for residents.” One wonders if he will stand as a Green candidate in Goose Green.
    • No doubt if he determines to stand for a ward he will enlighten us - at least his track record is one of using this site to communicate (inter alia). I would suspect that (1) his personal views on traffic will have remained consistent but that (2) his views on local democracy and proper consultation will have as well.
    • Yes, but I want to know where he stands on all this stuff now. My feeling is it won't be any different from Labour?
