My 2 girls between them are building up a little collection of princess dresses.

They have

Anna & Elsa (double set from Toys R Us - some very itchy material, especially on Elsa)

Rapunzel (ordered from Amazon in a desperate effort to get it for Christmas)

Merida from Brave (ASDA)

Sofia the first (ASDA)

The ASDA ones are ?12.50 and come with an accessory (Merida came with her bow and arrows, Sofia comes with her tiara, and I know their Rapunzel one comes with a hair piece, but it was sold out when I was trying to get it).

The Disney Store ones are ?30 (or ?60 for the "duluxe" versions), and IMO are not so nice.

ASDA for value and IMO they look the most like the ones in the films.

Can't quite believe I have started a thread about Disney dresses, but I have two daughters, and I know what it's like when they're desperate for these things, and wanted to mention ASDA in case anyone hasn't seen their stuff.

How's the size range and relative fit?

Little Saff just turned 5 yrs, but because she's on the ~98% for height/weight, she's wearing clothes for 8 yrs. We're already having trouble finding dressing up clothes, since many of the dressing up styles suitable for v young children stop around 6-8 yrs.

Disney Brand definitley runs small, so do many of the off-label clothes made over-seas. Even if they're long enough for her, they're often too narrow in the shoulders. :-(

I'm starting to wonder if I'd be better off buying 2nd hand semi-formal dresses (flower girl, junior bridesmaid, etc)?

we did a lot of shopping around for DD's Snow White dress a couple of years back and settled on the Asda one. But her Elsa and Anna dresses are Sainsbury's, which are very good - she also got a lovely witch dress from there last year.

Disney store dresses are awful, I would never buy from there, never the nicest and swooningly expensive! Their knickers are very good though, the only pants I have found that don't gape at the top of the leg, and not expensive either.

Saffron, just had a look at the Rapunzel dress and they do 2-3, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 and 9-10.

I'm probably not the best person to comment on the fit, other than to say the ones we have seem fine.

I imagine the bigger sizes cost a bit more, but don't think they're very expensive.

    • Another recommendation for Dulwich Test and Services Centre. Only been using them for a couple of years but wish I’d found them earlier
    • A new roadmap (surely railmap?!) for rail accessibility has been published: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/accessible-railways-roadmap It says "approximately 56% of stations and around 66% of the 1.3 billion journeys that take place on the network have step-free access to platforms...  "£373 million has been committed over the next 5 years to deliver Access for All projects, providing step-free access from station entrances to and between platforms, alongside other essential accessibility upgrades. These works, together, will increase the number of step-free stations across Great Britain from 56% to 58%. "This improvement will make travel easier with step-free access available at stations covering an increased share of total rail journeys – from 66% up to 71%" Don't know what that means for us here: upgrading Peckham Rye would cover a lot of rail journeys but the cost has no doubt increased from the £40m figure previously quoted. So that would eat into a lot of the funding.
    • It's not really though, is it. It's practical.  At least we're allowed Christmas lights.
