Timber cut to order?

I have a small project i'm working on and need some softwood cut to specific lengths.

I know about B&Q, Travis Perkins and Jewsons but am wondering if there's any good locally owned places that cut to order?

Or perhaps i'm overlooking the above mentioned and should give them a try? Cost is a factor, B&Q seem quite expensive.
