Pest Protect pest control con artist - do not use!

Hi, just wanted to warn fellow forum-ites to avoid Pest Protect (based nr. Old Kent Road). They quoted me ?160 for 3 visits and 6 months mice-free guaranteed. At the end of the first visit, they tried to charge the ?160 to my debit card, using an iphone and a PIN reader bluetooth device. This (conveniently) didn't work, so I (stupidly) sent the cash by BACS. This is effectively a cash transfer, which cannot be clawed back via bank's fraud departments, as I later discovered.

When Danny was due to visit the following week, he texted me to say his dad had died. I suspect now this was a lie, to buy time, as this was now 3 weeks ago, and Danny is not returning my calls.

In short, I've been scammed out of ?160 by a con artist. I've seen that another user on this forum has gone through the same as me. Avoid this company like the plague!

What did they do for ?160? I used a man from here who put poison & sticky pads came monthly to check etc he charged ?160 too but I've (fingers crossed been mice free) I'm happy to message his number if you want.

I do feel so sorry for you I am genuinely petrified of the little blighters! Good luck in chasing up your money.

Thanks Lesley. He claimed he'd make 3 visits - lay down poison on the first (which he did), remove poison and seal up holes on the second, and come back and check on the third. It was the idea of sealing holes in particular that made me go for this chap, as I live in an old pre-Victorian house, with holes everywhere! Great if you could send me your chap's number, they are indeed little blighters, especially when we have a 6 month old in the house!

    • I don't know how it works now but my late parents had little money when they were retired (just state pension and they rented their flat) and they used to take their cat to the Blue Cross (In Victoria if I remember correctly) where treatment was free for those who could'nt afford a private vet. I sincerely hope similar is available still because for many elderly their pet is their main source of comfort and company.
    • In a couple of places locally, I have come across this. I am fairly sure that they attempt to do the bill in their head. If you just say , “no, I think it’s x” they start again and get to an agreeable number, or find a calculator. I don’t think it’s a malicious attempt to swindle people. Just not great arithmetic.
    • There are excellent charities like the Greenwich Wildlife Network who will help if you report any concerns with local wildlife. Foxes are wonderful creatures who had been forced into our town and cities and are just doing their best to survive, we should take care of them when we can.
    • Like I thought… prob like that for most of the day.. especially after people had walked their dogs, with friends, relatives  kids…
