Apparently this is the Universal Law of Belief.

In the interests of absolute candour, and following the underhand exploits of Bounty, I'm should explain that this is work related. I have the opportunity to pitch for some work that sort of centres on Universal Laws. Currently I know next to nothing and wondered what anyone who does thinks about them / the concept: sound philosophical principles or am I on a hiding to claptrappery?

Hi RosieH, Dont know much about universal laws seems like a religion to me, I'd be really interested in which way they practice these laws in business if it is a business. would it make a diffrence to you working for a group (if it is a group)of people who may have diffrent ideas to yourself, it may be ppl who have respect for themselves, others and nature. I'd check out what they do with any money they make. Probably best to go and meet them without the, I believe its going to be enlightening or I believe its all claptrap, good luck.

In science or philosophy no law can be completely universal (not even that one). It can only apply universally within certain parameters but never to everything. That would be assuming that either there is a finite level to knowledge and discovery or that anything new that we ever discover or figure out will behave in a way which we have predetermined.

Likewise in philosophy formulating that everyone will react morally in a certain way is speculating that there is a limit to the human experience. This can?t be proved or disproved.

But within limited parameters there are universal laws that work quite nicely. If the laws of Newtonian Physics didn?t apply to a portion of our physical environment then we would all become very dead very quickly for instance.

I haven't read anything about the universal laws myself, but I did track down this review from Amazon which may be instructive:

"After I read 'We The Arcturians', I bought 'The Light Shall Set You Free'. The first time I opened it, I was on a short solo camping trip to a favorite spot in the Zaleski Sate Forest near Lake Hope here in beautiful Ohio. That night, I read about 30 or 40 pages and then went to sleep. I am someone who love and uses crystals, and I had some with me that night. I set them up at the 6 corners of my hexagonal tent. I also had one hanging straight down over me from the roof supports and one around my neck. Well, that night my body was full of electricity as I was visited by 8 Ascended Masters! My dreams were all lucid as one Master after another would come to me (in the tent!) and deposit geometry into my body. Can you believe it! I tell you, this book contains very high vibrations and those vibrations are trasnsmitted into your 4 bodies (physical, mental, emotional and spiritual) when you read it, much like the channeled material of Barbara Marciniak. I recommend these books by Norma Milanovich because she has a direct link that she shares through these books. I understand she has workshops also, but a healer may want to have the reward for healing to just be the fact that she is able to do the healing and not have it be alot of money for further information installments. This same experience recurs whenever I open the book and read another chapter, another Universal Law. In any case, get this book and launch your earth-bound self to heaven as your Higher Self gets grounded here on the planet Earth... OK? It's worth the small donation to her bank account only if you believe the material as I do. It's a great journey, one of fun and amazement!"

Well DaveR, thanks very much for ruining my life - I really do need to be bringing some money in, you realise there's a credit crunch on, right?

And Brendan, thanks for your insights.

Based on the above responses, I suspect I might have a hard sell on my hands. Arse.

A bit harsh?

There's obviously money to be made here - just hold your nose and dive in! If you're lucky you may get a visit from an Ascended Master.

    • Had council stock not been sold off then it wouldn't have needed replacing. Whilst I agree that the prohibition on spending revenue from sales on new council housing was a contributory factor, where, in places where building land is scarce and expensive such as London, would these replacement homes have been built. Don't mention infill land! The whole right to buy issue made me so angry when it was introduced and I'm still fuming 40 odd years later. If I could see it was just creating problems for the future, how come Thatcher didn't. I suspect though she did, was more interested in buying votes, and just didn't care about a scarcity of housing impacting the next generations.
    • Actually I don't think so. What caused the problem was the ban on councils using the revenues from sales to build more houses. Had councils been able to reinvest in more housing then we would have had a boom in building. And councils would have been relieved, through the sales, of the cost of maintaining old housing stock. Thatcher believed that council tenants didn't vote Conservative, and home owners did. Which may have been, at the time a correct assumption. But it was the ban on councils building more from the sales revenues which was the real killer here. Not the sales themselves.
    • I agree with Jenjenjen. Guarantees are provided for works and services actually carried out; they are not an insurance policy for leaks anywhere else on the roof. Assuming that the rendering at the chimney stopped the leak that you asked the roofer to repair, then the guarantee will cover that rendering work. Indeed, if at some time in the future it leaked again at that exact same spot but by another cause, that would not be covered. Failure of rendering around a chimney is pretty common so, if re-rendering did resolve that leak, there is no particular reason to link it to the holes in the felt elsewhere across the roof.
    • Hey, I am on the first floor and I am directly impacted if roof leaks. We got a roofing company to do repair work which was supposed to be guaranteed. However, when it started leaking again, we were informed that the guarantee is just for a new roof and not repair work. Each time the company that did the repair work came out again over the next few years, we had to pay additional amounts. The roof continues to leak, so I have just organised another company to fix the roof instead, as the guarantee doesn't mean anything.
