New cinema

I remember going to the Cinema in the 50's..

Films were screened continuously and we rarely watched the a film from start to finish.

Often when we went in the film might be half way through, so we would watch the film to the end then

watch the beginning until we reached the bit where we first came in. Seems ridiculous now.

Then Cinemas started to have start times and a program with a second film and then the

trailers for the following week.

The same film would be shown for the whole week.

There was only one screen and the Cinemas were huge holding many hundred people.

Ice cream was sold in the interval when reels were being changed. Hot dogs were available and smoking

was allowed. Many gentle men smoked pipes.

There was always a thick blue haze and you could see the beam of the projectors in the smoke.

So with 3 screens I don't know how often films will be changed.

Can't imagine the same film being on for the whole week.

It will operate in exactly the same way as all other cinemas with several films all showing at different rimes of the day and evening and usually running for a fortnight. They will have probably cut out the man sitting at his organ rising from the orchestra pit and and the White tennis ball jumping along the words to the music but we are in austere times!

    • It was indeed in the vicinity of DKH. I live on the ED estate and I could tell it must be close by because of the noise. When I left my house this morning I found the culprits litter still in the middle of the st. It looked like they had lit a whole box on fire in the middle of the road. My cat jumped out of her skin. I’ll try and report it on Southwark website same as I have had to with other illegal use this week. Any other ideas for what we can do with the photos? Maybe one of the Southwark councillors. It’s outrageous and dangerous behaviour.
    • Had another great meal there…. those that haven’t tried it, give it a go.. have a special lunch menu as well so you can get a flavour of the food.
    • If you "cotton on" and read the council announcement, it clearly states "The library will be closed from 17 November until late June or early July 2026."  https://www.southwark.gov.uk/2025/dulwich-library-closing-refurbishment
    • I’ve been seeing Lisa at goose green clinic for energy work for a year now.  Lisa is kind, caring and hugely supportive. She is wonderfully masterful and trained as a reiki master for 20 plus years. Alongside other energy work.  My time spent with her is like therapy. An emotional safe space for deep conversations and reflection followed by relaxing and energising healing work.  each experience I’ve had has been different, the end result remains the same. Feel lighter, almost euphoric and almost float home. Definitely an experience not to be missed.  https://www.goosegreenclinic.net/therapies/healing-energy-work/
