Whilst standing orders and direct debits get claimed at midnight, the start of the day they're due to leave my account, I can't make transfers into that account until the staff turn up at the bank and pick up a phone.

If a bank can set up it's system to claim money at midnight I'd wager it would be just as easy for it to do so at lunchtime when customers would have had time to transfer money into the account.

And before anyone points out the obvious, I can be a bit forgetful but I shouldn't have to give money to a bank because of that.

Grrrr etc

AnotherPaul - I have discovered the ins and outs of this since freelancing and having erratic payers* - not sure what bank you're with but mine is fine provided:

1) money goes in on the day

2) if it's something that they would "return unpaid" rather than just pay and take you over overdraft limit (not sure if there's always an apparent logic to that one, but direct debits and standing orders etc) you call and let them know that you're paying the money in. That avoids the problem of their having returned an item unpaid at 9am only for you to pay in enough funds to cover at 11

*and erm, sometimes just being completely rubbish

Interesting Mick that I decided to use Public Transport to and from Millwall tonight.

Guy I was chatting with worked for a Law Firm and was very moderate yet seemed to relish the potential events to morrow as he feels The Banks have shafted us for a long period and he reckons its pay-back time tomorrow.

    • Why would mice move? It’s not so much they move as multiply and spread    copy and paste rather than cut and paste  mice can and should be dealt with.  But not easily or with guarantees  i would say most people in se22 reading this have mice. Whether they know it or not

    • If a food outlet has a mouse problem then it's likely to stay there until the outlet runs out of food, unless it's adjacent to other food outlets. Why would the mice move? And mice can be dealt with. If you are prepared to pay for it. Which, with some proprieters, is a very big if. I have no evidence that the problem has reoccured in its new inception, although obviously good owners keep the focus on good hygiene. You win the battle but the war continues.
