I have several moans about the UK police, supposedly one of the best in the world"supposedly" that

was my impression when I moved to the UK

1-had 2 attempted vehicle break ins, brilliant conclusions, reported it, then they close it

2-Had finger prints taken from a crime scene once in a related robbery - open and closed again

3-in my latest case, a nuisance/malicious call, they will try to retrieve the number, but they say that due to data protection issues, they can only attempt

the common ground in the 6 years Ive been in the UK is that not one case was helped solved, so my effectivity rating for them is a fat zero, Nil, zilch , kaput, I feel for the UK Public as I believe they deserve better, Police are paid well, only for the public shortchanged, that is my strong opinion

It is so confusing how to deal with and think about the police as an organisation.

I agree with Brendan about the control aspect.

And yet when I attend Police Ward Panels, they report their problems openly as to how to deal with crime and the underfunding and so on. In a way 'it' (the institution) is a bit like the NHS, in that there are individuals in the NHS who really should notbe allowed near sick people, and far too many managers in both outfits.

You can always turn this around;

ie

You go do their job see how effective you are within the confines of how they have to work.....

Its easy to whinge about the police but how many times have you been raped, murdered or assaulted with a deadly weapon?

I think the police do a great job and they need more praise for the amazing job they do in the community.

Not people whining about how they didn't mount a full scale 'anti malicious phone call war' because someone got a heavy breather.

They have better things to do. Like catch murderers and try to stem the drug trade!

I have found the Police pretty good in Peckham.

They followed up on a malicious call my daughter received recently and put the oik into touch. This was related to a punch she had received from another lad, which was taken very seriously; she gave video evidence and we are waiting for this to come to trial.

I've only reported two serious incidents that I witnessed and the police responded immediately.

Also, my far from perfect but lovely daughter has been on the other side of the police's attention (!) and they dealt with it very effectively, with no complaints from me.

I think they do a pretty thankless, sometimes dangerous job fairly well.

The Police response to crime is proportionate. You have stated 3 incidents which you have reported. Whilst each deserves thorough investigation unfortunately Police manpower issues mean that some crimes will be higher priority. I don't understand some of the other points you have made such as the one about stabvests? It sounds like that gripe is on behalf of the Police.

    • Hi Merry Christmas no joy with that Paul Hackett email thanks
    • Miss Robson is the last of the old school independent vets. All the chains are have seriously hiked their prices over the last few years which now makes pet ownership only possible for the wealthy few. Even with pet insurance -( which often excludes items or has ‘deductibles’ ) it is just so much money. A visit with some medication is often £150 - £200. The vets themselves are excellent.
    • Awful. A Google search came up with this, but will he check his office email over Christmas? Maybe worth also contacting local councillor? 'To contact Southern Housing's CEO, Paul Hackett, you can try his direct email, [email protected], or use the general contact email [email protected], as well as calling their main number, 0300 303 1066, for general inquiries or to be directed to the executive level.' Also, from the website: https://www.southernhousing.org.uk/latest-news/2025/contacting-us-over-the-festive-period   'Contacting us about an emergency? If you have an emergency outside of the above times over the festive period, such as severe flooding, an uncontainable leak, gas leak, complete electrical failure or lift breakdown, please call us on 0300 303 1066' I hope it is sorted out soon.
