Looked into this last night. I'd read the fine print. Carefully.

I've been a member of Hamlets Health Club before and probably will be again sometime soon. It's a nice gym that's good value for money. If you join directly (see HHC Site) then the price is:

Single: ?30/month or ?150 for six months in advance.

Couple: ?50/month or ?250 for six months in advance.

This is for gym (any time) and sauna. The minimum commitment is 6 months.

The offer (through Change 4 Life) is ?21 per month single. No couples membership deal. ?15 up front enrolment fee. Lots of fine print, but not much detail on what your membership entitles you to. The sting in the tail is that you are signing up for a 24 month (!!!) commitment.

More worryingly, this offer is being made through a third party - Ashbourne Management Services Ltd. I googled the name and, frankly, I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. My google query is here.

It's a bit more expensive, but I'd go directly through Hamlets, especially if you are a couple.

Its an Interesting point that you make Loz,

You are correct Hamlets Health Club is a very good training facility and the club rates are very cheap.

Regarding the special offer that Hamlets are doing, yes it is a 2 year membership there is no hiding the fact that it is a 2 year membership for a great rate at ?21 if you join online, or ?20 if you join at the club. Its a very good offer, all part of the Governments Change-4-life campaign.

This membership entitles you to full use of the gym anytime you like with a full induction and a programme if you require one, plus full use of the Sauna also. You can also include the classes such as spinning and the yoga for just an extra ?5 per month.

As regards to Ashbourne management services, they do look after some of our memberships purely because it makes it easier for the staff at Hamlets to concentrate on other things. They are absolutely fine we researched them before we used them and spoek to many other health clubs and have found this to be a massive benefit.

    • I'm a gelatinous non Peloton user but admire this post. This is what EDF is for! I really hope you find Peloton Pals , Emily1011, and your good intentions put me to shame. xx
    • I bought my peloton last August, I sit 4 feet in front of it everyday at my desk. When I do use it I love it, yet no interest nor obligation to use it of late without some gentle boost of encouragement other than my gelatinous self reflection.  Once upon a time (not all too long ago) I’d be doing 2 spin classes a day. I know I have it in me and I’m far from lazy. Be great if anyone locally wanted to do some check ins / accountability / light and fun competitive elements etc.  I’ve seen at least 3 pelotons in windows in SE22.  I’m one step away from knocking on their doors 😀.    Responses of sincere kindness and helpful support are welcome only. Advice is not sought after. Purely welcoming people who have access to a peloton to discuss further.  Thanks  Emily
    • The universe ( in the form of kind and observant Emily1011) has returned my keys to me . Thank you Emily !!!
    • Has anything changed that you know of? Has your present insurer given an explanation? Has it only gone up in SE22? Sorry for all the questions! My premium was massively increased a few years back following subsidence in my  front bay, though I did subsequently get it cheaper through a specialist broker.
