Bob Dylan is reputed to draw inspiration from anywhere and everywhere.

When I was young my father would recite the poems of Robert Service to me. One in particular - "The Shooting of Dan McGrew" has always stuck in my mind. Listening to some old Dylan tracks recently I felt a resonance between that poem and Dylan's "Lilly, Rosemary and the Jack of Spades"

LILY, ROSEMARY AND THE JACK OF HEARTS

The festival was over, the boys were all plannin? for a fall,

The cabaret was quiet except for the drillin? in the wall.

The curfew had been lifted and the gamblin? wheel shut down,

Anyone with any sense had already left town.

He was standin? in the doorway lookin? like the Jack of Hearts.

"The Shooting of Dan McGrew"

A bunch of the boys were whooping it up

In the Malamute saloon;

The kid that handles the music-box

Was hitting a jag-time tune;

Back of the bar, in a solo game,

Sat Dangerous Dan McGrew,

And watching his luck was his light-o'-love,

The lady that's known as Lou.

Does anyone else see a particular resonance between a Dylan track and other poetry, books, films and events?

Sometimes I sense there's some similarities or parallels between Dylan's works and Walt Whitman's works.

Not specific poems or songs which I could point to, more the pace and tempre, the essenec if you will.

Just my view though.

Also, I think it's accepted that Rambaud and his boyfriend ('Verlaine' ?) influenced the young Dylan.

Forest Hill station has Southern Rail and Windrush, The London bridge train is great for connecting to Northern Line or Southern Trains to Charing X and Cannon Street.  When I need to get into the city I take Windrrush to Whitechapel then Elizabeth Line to Liverpool Street. Lots of parks, Lots of young families, farmers Market on Sunday, Decent nearby pool and gym. Independent Butcher a few Delis (Aga's The butcher sells Deli stuff And Pantry on Perry Vale) and good independent cofee shops, An organic  grocer on dartmouth road.. Sainsburys, Costa, Superdrug and TJ Jones (WHSmith) are branches of chains based there.

    • Update via email:   We’re getting closer to the re-opening of Dulwich pool and we can’t wait to welcome you back for leisure, fitness or lessons! We have faced some technical challenges with the installation of the new filter that has caused a delay to our originally planned opening date. We are now planning to re-open the pool as follows: Wednesday 15 October; pool re-opens for all swim sessions and classes Monday 20 October; swimming lessons start >> New filtration system We’ve fitted a brand-new Defender filter in the pool – one of the most advanced systems available today. If you have a 14 day priority membership, bookings open on 1 October. If you have a 7 day priority membership bookings open on 8 October. >> New showers and upgrade to disability facilities While the pool has been closed, we’ve installed new showers in the wet changing rooms and upgraded our disability changing room access to meet the latest compliance standards. >> Help us keep the pool sparkling clean Please shower before you swim. It helps us keep the pool sparkling clean and fresh for everyone – and makes your dip even nicer too! >> Swimming lessons Lessons will resume at Dulwich Leisure Centre on 20 October. You will receive a separate email confirming details. >> Refunds You may be entitled to a refund if you are a Dulwich member who has not attended another Move Southwark pool during the closure period.
