WavesMindfulness
Hi John, yes some studies have suggested that it can help manage Cancer (please note not cure!) This means that it can help a patient cope with the pain, and stress associated with the disease - which in turn can have a physical benefit. Studies also showed that meditation can grow back telomeres on our genes which shrink with old age and illness.here's a few articles which you may find useful.http://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/mindfulness-meditation-and-group-therapy-protect-cells-of-breast-cancer-survivors-9839580.htmlhttp://www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/find-a-clinical-trial/a-study-mindfulness-as-way-of-helping-with-fatigue-anxiety-and-depression-in-secondary-breast-cancer-mfab#undefinedhttp://www.theguardian.com/society/2014/feb/14/cancer-meditation-aid-recoverylet me know if you have any questions Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/64879-mindfulness-workshop-for-adults-and-children-august/#findComment-868936 Share on other sites
edhistory
Thanks.I read the Cancer Research UK page which described the trial in brief but not the rseults. This led me here:http://www.dcscience.net/2011/02/18/george-lewiths-private-practice-another-case-study/John K Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/64879-mindfulness-workshop-for-adults-and-children-august/#findComment-868938 Share on other sites
WavesMindfulness
Hi John, try this link - at the bottom it gives a summary of trials and results http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/cancers-in-general/treatment/complementary-alternative/therapies/meditationI read the link that you put up - but it doesn't mention mindfulness, just homoeopathic pills- which I'm sure you appreciate is nothing to do with my services. What I did find interesting was the reference to the ''placebo effect'' - the power of the mind can bring about physical and mental well-being. Please do not think that I'am advocating Mindfulness over traditional medicine - I'm advocating the practice in conjunction with traditional medicine to best serve the client. There is also a fabulous documentary called 'The Connect' which shows lots of leading U.S. medical DR's and professors running clinical trials on the effectiveness Mindfulness with positive results.
