wooden windows/doors recommendations and advice

Can anyone recommend local firm to replace french doors - currently metal frame and I'm considering wooden rather than uvpc due to the narrower frame as the doors are quite narrow and I don't want the frames to overwhelm the effect. Has anyone used local companies - good and bad experiences and words of wisdom , things to consider all gratefully received.Many thanks.
