Hi I wanted to ask on the family room as thought I'd get a representative response from some other mums! When an electrician or plumber comes to do a small job (a few hours work/1 day) is is normal for them to ask for cash to go and get the parts then take ages to go to the merchants, when there are clearly loads between ED and Crofton Park. This has happened with two recommended trades from the forum and it makes me feel uncomfortable. A recommended electrician spun me several lines about his van breaking down, lost credit card etc. Would value any advice, thank you Ali

Did he come back with the part and a receipt? Was he charging by the hour for his time?

I wouldn't normally expect to pay cash upfront if they need to buy a part though I've certainly had tradesmen disappear off to get something they need. But I would expect a receipt and to pay for it as part of the overall payment when the job was finished. And if it's a pay-by-the-hour agreement, I'd expect them to have the parts they need when they arrive. Hope this helps!

    • As I understand it Charlie Smith did put himself forward for selection in GG but Labour members chose someone else to represent them, Liam McGrath https://southwarklabour.com/our-candidates/   It'll be interesting to see if there are other defections - surely the Greens want a drip, drip, drip of news from now to May suggesting the momentum is with them.
    • Thanks for your feedback - we always appreciate hearing from members about their experience. The pool temperature at JAGS Sports Club is maintained at 29oC, in line with industry guidelines for mixed-use pools.  This temperature has been designed to balance comfort for lane swimmers and families. Air temperature is also monitored regularly to ensure a comfortable environment for swimmers, spectators and staff. The shower Temperature Mixing Valves (TMVs) were changed in December to improve consistency, and we hope this has made a noticeable difference. If you would like to discuss your experience in more detail, please contact us directly at [email protected] or 020 8613 6500 and we'll be really happy to help.
    • One wonders if he would have defected if he had, ahem, held on to the leadership of Southwark and whether he felt that "Labour are no longer the vehicle for social justice" during his leadership election........my how quickly things change in the thoughts of a politician 😉 I think this sums things up quite nicely: A senior Southwark Labour spokesperson hit back: “Local residents can draw their own conclusions about Cllr McAsh’s swift move from Labour leadership hopeful to the Green Party, after he didn’t get his own way. While he’s thinking about his own career, Southwark Labour are delivering for residents.” One wonders if he will stand as a Green candidate in Goose Green.
    • No doubt if he determines to stand for a ward he will enlighten us - at least his track record is one of using this site to communicate (inter alia). I would suspect that (1) his personal views on traffic will have remained consistent but that (2) his views on local democracy and proper consultation will have as well.
