Organic Village

Has anyone else tried the new food shop called Organic Village on Lordship Lane? (opposite the East Dulwich Tavern) I've started getting a lot of my food from there now, and I just wanted to say how impressed I am with them. The people who work there are always really friendly and they're always very well-stocked - they've just started stocking organic meat along with a great selection of fruit and vegetables. There were some things I wanted from there that weren't in stock the first time I visited, but they ordered everything I wanted in for me, so they get a big thumbs up from me for customer service. They're also open 'til late at night too, closing at 11pm, even on a Sunday! Really handy they're open late on a Sunday because most places on Lordship Lane seem to close down really early on a Sunday. Keep up the good work guys!

Yes I go there regularly... the fruit and veg is cheaper than the co-op (e.g. 4 limes for a pound, 39p each in the co-op - not to mention SMBS foods) and the tomatoes actually taste of tomatoes, not like what passes for tomatoes in supermarkets. And if you want specialist ingredients like pomegranate molasses or want nice turkish apple or cinammon tea, or some freshly made spinach and feta borek this is the place for you

I agree the staff are super friendly too :-)

I forgot to mention they've got a brilliant selection of fruit teas and coffees. I can't have caffeine so it was a real pleasure to find they've got organic decaf coffee. Also, when I went there the other day I was thrilled to discover they sell fine quality vegetarian and vegan red wine, all at very reasonable prices. For anyone who hasn't been shopping there yet, I'd certainly recommend going there.

    • Europe, very much so, the whole of August is a write-off, if you want anything delivered from there, forget it, but there's no similar summer shutdown period in the UK as such, just people taking hols while kids off school etc. The nearest the UK construction sector has to a proper shut down is the Christmas/New Year period when, depending on when the Bank Holidays fall, there's an approx 10-14 day unofficial shutdown between Christmas and New Year...
    • There's planning permission for 2 houses.  Southwark planning site is too slow today to use, but found this link from Savills to auction the site: https://auctions.savills.co.uk/auctions/19--26-november-2024-158/3335-hansler-road-east-dulwich-london-se22-9dj-13236   Edited to add that the inclusion of lower ground floor in the planning application description indicates that basements will be dug.  Looks like Fellbrigg/Hansler is up for some heavy construction traffic next year.   Links to planning documents: https://planning.southwark.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=documents&keyVal=RZDIQMKBI2V00
