Paint! Paint! Paint!

Could you make use of some free paint?

If you are decorating your home or community centre, free paint is always available at the Southwark Reuse and Recycling Centre - part of the national Community Repaint scheme.

?We stock a wide variety of paint ? whatever local residents donate to us: emulsions, oil-based paints, masonry paints, varnishes etc. in a variety of colours

?We cannot guarantee what?s in stock at any one given time and cannot reserve paint in advance

?You can take as much paint as you can carry but you will be asked to complete a disclaimer confirming you will not sell the paint on, or use it for commercial purposes

?You can collect anytime during our opening hours but please try to avoid busy periods such as weekends

?Paint is available to non-Southwark residents

Can you tell me why, when I took paint which was old and had gone off to this tip, I was told in no uncertain terms to put it in with the general rubbish?

Obviously it could not be used, but why don't you have a facility for disposing of this kind of chemical waste, rather than just sending it to landfill where it will contaminate the earth?

ETA: I think it's great that you are recycling usable paint, btw.

    • Massive thank you to Stephen. Painted our whole house - and got lots of other bits sorted, too. Nothing was too much trouble, everything looks great and all came in on quote. Fantastic. Liverpool fan, but don’t hold that against him. Will 100% use again.
    • We worked with Eliot recently to get two sets of shelves built. He was excellent! Really high quality craftsmanship, communicative and lovely - I’d recommend Langley Carpentry in a heartbeat.
    • How about trying the upstairs of some local pubs like EDT? They prob won't stay open until wee small hours but worth a try... or night at Rivoli Ballroom Catford (too old?!) or somewhere up in town for drinks rather than hiring somewhere.
    • Sadly crime does seem to be going up in terms of opportunists and street crime / bike thefts etc. Lack of CCTV in this area means it's more of a target than some neighbouring areas according to police (when they sent victim support round after our car had its catalytic converter stolen twice in 6 months by organised gang complete with balaclavas, iron bars and a chainsaw.. driving a 4x4). Crime still relatively low by some parts of London standards but a worrying trend if burglars are trying their luck when people are actually home. Wonder what local police/ MP thoughts are in terms of whether they could organise more community policing patrols. I read a woman was punched in the face on/near Lordship Lane in an unprovoked attack a week or two ago. Terrifying.
