Wanted to buy: sewing machine for a good cause

Recommended Posts

I had originally posted this in the general wanted section but with no luck, so I'm hoping I will be allowed to post here, as it's kind of family-related - ie my family trying to help another family *smiles hopefully at family room moderator*

I am about to finish a year of mentoring a young person who has expressed an interest in, and aptitude for, sewing. She doesn't have many interests or hobbies, and her life chances aren't particularly spectacular, so as a parting gift, I'd love to leave her with the wherewithal to nurture this interest - ie a basic sewing machine, and a simple instruction / inspiration book to go alongside.

I'm not really allowed to spend money on gifts, but I thought if I could find a basic second-hand sewing machine for very little, then that wouldn't really count :-)

Does anyone have one they no longer use? It would need to be basic and modern (ie not dissimilar to the one she will have used in Textiles classes at school) and in good working order. I'm ideally looking to pay around ?15, which I know isn't much but would be going to a very good home! Happy to collect!

Thanks in advance!

Hi Norfolk,

I have one that Inam happy to donate, bought it a few years ago with the intention of getting back into sewing but it has only been out of its box once and much better for it to get some use. (And maybe you can spend the ?15 on a book?). PM me if interested, I will need to dig it out as our house is a building site at present, but I think I know where it is...

    • It's unprofessional, and possibly illegal.  There are procedures to complain.
    • Occasionally when this happens, the estate agent is complicit. Had this happen to our neighbour and we later found that the house was bought by the sister of the estate agent at the reduced price. The agent is in an advantageous position as he/she is aware of the seller's circumstances and occasionally one will go rogue to do a favour for a relative/friend.
    • Hello, I have a new boxed (unwanted gift) Tefal Secure 5 that you could have.  The model is P2500731 and is a few years old, just been sitting in a cupboard, but it hasn’t even been unpacked.  I think a new version is about £70 so you can have it for £25?  If interested, please let me know and I can drop off to you if you like as we are on Brixton Hill but pass through ED most days.  Best wishes, Alison
    • If you have any please let me know thanks Angelina
