Victorian Maisonette Loft Conversion?

Hello East Dulwich!

I am looking to convert the loft of my Victorian maisonette. It is one of those long thin flats that is mostly roof. I wanted to ask whether anyone has done it to theirs already and what was their experience like! Who did you use and were you happy? I've tried looking at houses from the street, but as the roof goes so far back, any extension would be hidden from view. ALL advice would be most welcome!

Thank you for your help!

All the best,

Under the Ivy

ps: Same layout as this place: https://www.onthemarket.com/details/1960476/

I expect you can convert the main loft space (i.e. the traditional pitched roof over the front two rooms), but not the back section. Try looking at Bing maps in "bird's eye view" mode, will show very clearly if anyone else has done it.

Probably stating the obvious, but you need to make sure you definitely own the loft - if you don't then buying it from the freeholder might be doable, but could be expensive.

    • I found Niko on the forum and would add to the many recommendations for him on the forum. He fixed our leaking radiator and recalibrated the whole system. He also fixed our extractor fan. He's skilled, honest and friendly - drop him a WhatsApp +44 7818 607583
    • If anyone finds out the opening hours of the repair shop on Grove Vale, please post them here. It’s always closed when I go past.
    • Exactly that.  From all their communications at the time I just assumed it was something that was going to be done anyway so I just went along with it.  As per Froggy’s suggestion above I just went out to have a look at the readings (for the first time ever!) and it said 000078,231.  That’s for just short of three years.  I’ve no idea how that would translate to an actual bill though.
    • Thanks both! Unfortunately my mobile doesn't support a charging mat. I will try the place by the station, which is more convenient for me than Forest Hill Road  I'm avoiding Rye Lane as my daughter had a very bad experience at one of the shops there (I think it was a battery replacement and the "new"  battery failed almost immediately. Unfortunately she doesn't live in London and couldn't take it back) and there are so many I don't know which may be ok.
