Hi

I am returning to live in ED in March 2010 with my daughter after spending 5 years overseas.

My daughter will be 5 years old in Feb 2010 - I'm alittle confused with the schooling system here. Will she have to attend school as soon as she arrives (as she will be 5) or can it wait until Sept 2010?

Also my daughter does not speak any English and I am concerned that she will struggle to adapt - are there any bi-lingual schools in ED (English and Spanish) or schools which have Spanish language support assistants? Spanish playgroups?

I know that there is one bi-lingual school but it is in Nottinghill - but I am looking for something closer to home.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Most schools in London are accustomed to pupils starting school with little or no English and offer intensive language support if needed. Many large primaries will have Spanish speaking pupils and that may help her a little. I think she'll need to start in Feb 2010. Finding a school at all in ED may be difficult. Do you have an address in mind? Contact the closest school, to discuss?

There is probably a "Spanish school" on Saturdays somewhere in this part of London. The Spanish Embassy may have info.

    • I totally agree with jazzer having been “jumped on” by various members.. I try and help as that is the sort of person I am, but now will try hard  to just read and not reply.. was down right hurtful to have a comment made along the lines that as I was no longer as person supposed, in ED and moved somewhere else should just leave group. No longer sure what sort of people are on this group - certainly not as pleasant as it was 15 years  ago when people were pleasant, helpful and some things were a joke and much more  light hearted. Everyone has a right to their own opinion as it is a public forum- meaning anyone can join from where-ever but c maybe I have got that wrong as well / doesn’t matter as I will probably leave…
    • Doesn’t this business at the tills already happen in some grocery shops?
    • They shot part of an episode of the Bill around Camberwell Old Cemetery, a film set was nothing like this, for a start there were no cameras! Or direction, or site vehicles, or re-takes.
