Hi James - i'm not sure if you are actually our councillor (we're right at the Peckham Rye end of East Dulwich Road) however it would be great to have some advice on what to do next.

Since April 16th our brown food waste bins have not been emptied and we have received no notes from the bin collectors as to why this is (they have happily collected our green and blue bins)

Over the last two weeks we have left the bins out and repeatedly reported it as a missed collection (every day last week!) but still not collection. My last contact was on Friday 22nd when i was told i would now have to wait until Monday before anything could be logged.

I asked the people in the call centre if they could check with the people on the ground to see whay it was not being collected but apparently they can't do that.

I have also logged a complaint with the corporate complaints team and emailed the waste services division last week but nothing seems to happen.

Meanwhile we have bins full of nearly four weeks worth of food waste, which as you can imagine does not smell too good and we have no where to out our new food waste. I am going to try and put the bins out for collection again on our scheduled collection day (Tuesday) and see what happens. However if they are not collected again i'm not sure where else i can turn as the contact centre seem to be very unhelpful and are unable to get to the bottom of the issue. so i woud appreciate some advice on who to contact at Southwark to get this isue fixed (and to get rid of the two bins full of food wste before it gets any warmer!)

Hi Cyclemonkey,

How very odd.

I'm really sorry you've been given the run around and such poor service. This isnt right.

If you PM me or better email me ([email protected]) your home address and any ticket references I will try and get things resolved for you ASAP.

Hi UncleBen,

They're traffic count cameras. Usually record number plates (but not stored permanently) at several locations and then work out the routres traffic is flowing and the numbers involved.

You'll also see a number of plain traffic counts with just a pair of rubber tubes across the roads e.g. Lordsihp Lane close to goose Green.

Regards james.

Hi Jessie, edhistory,

It's annoying when that happens.

Trouble is bicycles ar ehuman powered and stopping and starting takes energy so sometimes cyclists don't stop.

But clearly motor vehicle drivers don't have that excuse but also don't always stop.

Hi CylceMonkey,

Have picked up you PM and will deal withit this am.

Hmm.

This is part of the outcome of the ?108,000 report Southwark Council purchased.

I was disappointed that the part-time cabinet councillor felt the need for such a report stating obvious if partial options. That they then rubbished publicy the partial options and are now consulting on them. Go figure.

The options are incomplete and framed to an agenda that many disagree with.

At the Dulwich Community Council last week most in the audience were very angry that they were being asked about these partial options and specifically ALMO's again for example (ALMO = Arms Length Mgmt Organisation a way of insulating the ruling political party from housing complaints).

The PR cost for all this is probably higher than the original ?108,000. This is a real shame as the council already has existing avenues to ask it tenants and leaseholders for their views and instead of trying to bypass them because they don't like the responses should just listen and take on board that the housing options report is flawed and a monumental waste of money.

You did ask uncleglen and I think I've been reserved in my feedback!

Hi James, sorry to bother you again so soon! Whilst i'm happy with the new zebra crossing on East Dulwich rd the accompanying street lights are ridiculously bright. My flat over looks east dulwich rd and my blackout blind has always been adequate. Today they crossing lights were put on and my bedroom is lit up like a Christmas tree! I'm obviously going to have to invest in even more robust window coverings as a consequence. However i'd like to know why Southwark have seen fit to add a load more bright white lights to an already well lit road.

James another accident again today on lordships lane where Upland and Court Lane is , a little girl because of drivers constantly speeding down there and even with the island , they don't stop and they don't slow down .

Can we not have speed cameras also a pedestrian button/lights on the island to make cars stop ?

Hi Cyclemonkey,

Can you email me your full address and I'll try and get the lights changed to help. Probably a shield or change the lattern direction - my email is [email protected]

Hi bloonoo,

Yes, they've been bothering me as well and I reported the issues earlier this week.

I suspect it will take some time and that they'll want to use traffic lights while they re paint the marking.

Hi DulwichBorn&Bred,

How awful.

Looking at Crashmaps.co.uk, which hasn't yet had 2012 data, that locations has had slightly more than one minor crash every year. I've asked for a traffic collission report to come to the Dulwich Community Council explaining where crashes are happening locally and ehat is being done to address them.

Speed cameras are decided by the London Speed Partnership and are concentrated where more crashes and more serious crahses occur on pan London basis. I've in the past proposed that we devolved this into having a Southwark Camera Partnership but failed dismally in getting this to happen.

The Council has recently decided to stop installing active speed signs despite evidence they reduce speeds.

Even if the council wanted to install a Pelican crossing the waiting list is over a year long. I'd suggest a zebra crossing. The mere presence of one encourages drivers to slow down speeds to sensible levels. It doesnt require traffic lights so can be done more quickly.

The speediest way to make this happen would be for you to apply for Cleaner, GReener, Safer funding. The next round will be around Oct/Nov later this year for decision probably late May for implimentation of approved project April 2014 to Mar 2015.

There is definitely more accidents then that as we witness most of them

Being as its directly outside the house , so far there has been a motorbike accident , a car that crashed into a wall and now this little girl holding her mother's hand whilst crossing at the island . Thankfully it wasn't serious though it did traumatise everyone this morning.

I have witnessed a death as well from a moped speeding.

A zebra crossing would help hopefully as the island doesn't make any stop .

The bus lane is also a stupid addition as they speed down lordship lane where drivers speed down upland road to come out onto lordship lane where is where most of the collisions tend to happened.

Hello - I would like to say how typically calculating it feels that the Parking Services swopped on cars parked on Strakers Road earlier today (between 11-1240pm). Many people were attending a children's charity fun run around the round flower beds near the gates at the cafe end. The car park was full so people parked along both sides of Strakers Road. Unfortunately (we now have the knowledge) it is an offense to park with wheels over the kerb. Many of us checked that there were no parking notices to say it was an offence to park there but mounted the kerb to ensure adequate passage of cars on the road. What a mistake!!! In future make sure you park on the road and block any cars getting in and out of the park, particularly emergency services. This is probably something that regularly occurs and Parking Services are taking advantage of the public in thinking it is better to make the road clear for passage. Instead of the day being a happy event to raise cash for needed charities we have all been out of pocket to the Council. I would urge that the Councillors would add notices to the site to explain the parking regulations... there are no lines along the road at all and no notices to say it is an offence to mount the kerb. Preying on people's ignorance Parking Services have milked in a considerable revenue today which is ill spirited to those attempting to do good for others, Dunstans Road Resident.

    • But what are you basing that judgement on? Vibes? where exactly and under what council is money being spent wisely? what about parties which promise to cut waste, come to power and find out there is no waste?
    • I've just had James from Trelco round doing taps and hot water.  Prompt, efficient and pleasant people and the cost came in under what we thought it would be! Will definitely use them again.
    • Yes - adult care is a large part of the CT bill.  That does not mean the council spend our money well or wisely.
    • “What do councils spend all the money on?” Is, in my view, one of the most profoundly emblematic of our times  we go about our lives, backed up by councils and governments and complain they aren’t needed  reform win elections based on “we’re gonna go in and slash all the waste!” Only to later admit there effectively isn’t any oh and by the way we need to increase council tax   Now all we have to offer is racism and ineptitude sorry about that  https://www.gbnews.com/money/reform-elon-musk-doge-failed-savings So where does the money go? On a multitude of services - but the increasingly aged population and the care provision required is a large part of it  the government could give councils more money to avoid council tax rises  - but the we would have to pay more in jewels taxation  and as a country we tend to pay less than other similar countries  so we end up with an expensive mend and make do approach  I don’t see any political parties offering a solution   Starmer is obviously lacking in many areas but he is the result of a hostile media and a reluctant population willing to hear truths  (wait until we hear how much we will need to increase defence spending by in the coming years) If a party stopped pretending all the money was wasted but published a list of costs, projections and proposals that wasn’t gutted to suit the landscape of needing to not bemonstered by the press or deemed too expensive by voters I would be very interested      can’t see that happening tho  (also worth reminding ourselves of all the brexiters who said things like “I don’t care how much it costs   I don’t care if I lose my job  it’s about taking back control!” And yet now we find them complaining about increasing costs. As they always will complain about everything  because it’s always someone else’s fault)
