There will be a chance to meet all the candidates in the South Camberwell by-election on Thursday 8 October.

Hustings will be held 7.30-9.30pm at the Albrighton Community Centre, East Dulwich Estate SE22 8AH (opposite Sainsburys on Dog Kennel Hill).

Candidates will have 3 minutes each to present before questions from the audience. Chaired by Linda Craig.

Come along and ensure your voice is heard. All welcome!

Here's how I would rate the candidates based on their performance at the Hustings:

1. Green

2. Tory

3. LD

4. Lab

Hard to rate the APP candidate as he's an excellent speaker, although has some rather eccentric views imo.

The Green candidate was easily the most impressive and best informed of the lot, although I probably won't vote for her as I disagree strongly with her opposition to the DHFC ground proposals. In fact, the Tory was the only one of the 5 who does support the club's plans.

The Labour candidate was surprisingly unimpressive and nervous. This should be a totally straightforward and easy seat for them to win, so I would have assumed they had a number of strong candidates who would have been keen to run. I expect she still will win, but maybe the Green will get a bit closer than expected.

    • You'll get large thermal swings with south facing glass, even triple glazed and high efficiency glass. Spent some time in a grand designs listed property with modern high tech glass extension and still had huge thermal swing in the extension. Shutters and awnings that shade the windows are most effective.  Temporary canvas sail type awnings are low cost and effective (will need replacing every few years). For upper floors internal cheese cloth style roller blinds are low cost and effective at reducing sun glare heat. For Velux, the black out blinds with the reflective layer significantly reduce heat, though they also stop the light.  We had the external Velux motorised shutters at previous house and they made a huge difference to thermal gain and lose, but blocked the light. For fixed roof windows, try hanging an oversized internal white canvas shade. Weather permitting, open loft / upper floor Velux windows and lower window to use chimney effect air flow from ground to loft to help cool house. Hope this helps
    • No one on here is likely to know are they? better approach Southwark Council for a sensible response and then maybe post it here?
