Hi Miriam.

I was going to tell you that you lived up the top of Crystal Palace Road, three doors down from Landcroft Road, if you lived in the lower floor you had to use the side entrance, of if you lived upstairs you had to go up the front steps.

Do you remember opposite was Bosworths the Builder, and Greenwoods the bakers on the corner of Lordship Lane.

The chemist was called Rubbras, and Wises sweet shop.

A few doors down from you lived the Watts family and the Wanlass's

You must have known the Filkings family top of Landcroft Rd.

And of course I was there somewhere too.

Hello all EDF people, and of course especially Miriam.

I moved into 318 CPR almost three years ago and found this amazing little letter in an envelope marked "Secret, to be opened." It was carefully hidden behind a panel in the front door. I am thrilled and amazed that the message on it worked and I'm now able to fulfill its instructions... "write to me and tell me who you are".

My family and I moved in here taking over the House from the Dengan family who I believe had lived here for 47 years, so that takes us back to 1962 or so. Its still a complete house with many of the features you described, although we sadly have removed a lot of your father good panelling work.

I'll contact you now by PM.

All the best

Hi Miriam,

My mum (Christa Duke) used to work at Western Glass Works in Bermondsey and her boss was Walter (Wally)Horwood who had a daughter Miriam. I'm wondering if that was you as Wally and family lived in Kent. I now live in Melbourne, Australia as we emigrated there in 1966. We used to live in St Mary Cray and then Chislehurst.

Regards

Frank Duke

Dear oh dear bbw.

What a ridiculous and ageist assertion - that a 60 something is all but senile. You're probably amazed that Miriam is - gasp! - able to operate a computer, use search engines and bewildered as to how she managed to use this forum. Glad to see you were proven very much mistaken but moreover, that the mystery of the letter has been resolved and Miriam is not only alive but seems to have her faculties intact. Welcome Miriam.

    • Ohh dear.  Fireworks can be great fun.  Where I used to live the kids would have firework wars/games.  Watching them was more enjoyable than watching  TV. (Which you could hardly hear due to the pops and bangs).  It's not like anyone/anything could stop them. I would still prefer organised public displays that are affordable.   And I agree that fireworks cause problems for wild life, pets and people.   It seems to be one of those things that just happens so we have to put up with it.  But it is still not as problematic here as in other areas in London - that's for sure.
    • I made sure to set off a few today just to rile you guys up 😇😂 Always looking for something to criticise
    • Ugly...maybe..does it bother me..NO! I think its somehow reassuring to see theres still phoneboxes around. East Dulwich may well be getrified but there may well be some elderly people who don't have mobiles and kids who may have lost theirs adults ditto etc etc. I'd rather keep it than lose it...just because i don't use it does'nt mean its not needed.  there are many eyesores in the modern world not all of them as potentially useful.
    • I strongly recommend Balayage salon in Lordship lane as everytime I visit, they make me feel very spicial with thier profisionalism and care.   I have been going there for the last 10 years maybe more, and will never exchange them for any other. They are profisional, welcoming and they also always have an offer. I feel like a new woman every time. X
