I have a broken back in which surgery made it worse. I now struggle to get in and out of my white VW Caddy MKII seat as it's rather too low, so I'm reluctantly having to sell it. I have been looking at getting a Rav4 (MKI/II) or a Nissan X-Trail or something similar.

In essence I need a small 4x4 as they seem to have an elevated seat position which I need so I don't have to struggle in pain getting in and out.

My budget will only be what I'll get for the van (estimated at ?2500) very low millage 44k on a 51 plate, it's never been used for commercial use, I have kitted the back out i.e. ply lined and fully insulated using recycled plastic insulation, the ply lining has been covered in grey carpet lining. I've made a telescopic storage/bed in which when extending an inflatable single airbed comfortably rests upon it with the driver's seat inclined forward. I use to use it for mountain bike trips around the country and even to south of France. It's in immaculate condition. I put a lot of work into it, hence the reluctance to sell it, but realistically it has to go if I'm to enjoy driving again painlessly.

Anyway getting to the crux of the matter, I was wondering if anyone local had a Toyata Rav 4, Nissan X-Trail or similar SUV not so I can buy it, really only that you could be so kind as to let me see it and try its seating position, just so that it gives me options of what to look out for on Autotrader and Ebay etc etc.

I did say it was an unusual request, but I know how friendly and neighbourly us Dulwichites are. If you are one of them please PM and let me know.

Thank you all for listening to my plea, and if anyone else has any other nice and sensible suggestions, please feel free to contact me.

Kind Regards

James

    • As the days shorten having evening fireworks for e.g. birthday parties becomes more realistic, the idea that fireworks is only about Guy Fawkes day or New Year's Eve is not a rule. I personally do not like fireworks, but other do, and I would see no reason to stop other's pleasure. I am sure the local Puritans will object, and there are issues about disturbing wild life with unexpected noise. But I'm in favour of simple pleasures. And many do like fireworks.

    • Most churches rent out halls for children's' parties but rarely adult parties, Christ Church only does afternoon parties,   The East Dulwich Community centre hires out halls to 9 pm only and all music needs to be on a sound restrictor as is in a residential area. St Johns with St Clements have a small hall but not sure if they allow adult parties. Nunhead Green has a newish community centre with a couple of different size halls. Most places seem to charge around £40 ph  with a deposit of £100/200 (returned if no damage or excess cleaning needed.
