malumbu
Nuclear fusion will be a commercial reality one day.The case was stronger 30 years ago when the world thought that they were running out of energy, including uranium.Men and ladies in lab coats are still trusted and admired. It is governments that are not.Without men and ladies in lab coats you would not be looking at your screen now. miga
As a society, we may not know how to build a bridge, a train or a nuclear power station any more, but boy can we think about these processes critically with all our cultural studies degrees.... And we're no nearer commercially realisable fusion power than we were 30 years ago.> Men and ladies in lab coats are still trusted and> admired.Well, unless you're a climate scientist, work for Monsanto, 'big pharma' etc etc.> Without men and ladies in lab coats you would not> be looking at your screen now.Or indeed Chinese miners toiling to get the coal to power the factories to make the screen. Science (actually, in these instances, technology) is lovely 'n' all, but it shouldn't be our religion. malumbu
BolloksWe pvoved the concept and made it work.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joint_European_TorusDon't blame scientists and engineers for exploiting others. Well at least not generically. Societies have been exploiting others since for zillions of years. Without Blighty exploiting others, and the first world continuing to do this now, you wouldn't have the creature comforts and standard of living that you enjoy now.Don't drag the men and ladies in white coats into this argument.Go and find a cave and live in that.
