We now have to buy our own little waste food bags to save tuppence ha'penny in the name of austerity(where??) whilst the Council blows millions upon millions on daft, fatuous road "improvements" like Townley/ ED Grove junction. and trying to force us all onto bikes. Madness. Are our elected representatives powerless to curb such appalling waste??

... and recycling is factored in in our Council Tax. So we pay twice..

At least the council doesn't get the second charge - unlike its proposals about charging for large item removal - and it has great hopes (now) to roll out lucrative CPZs into the rest of the borough. If the turkeys are still keen on voting for Christmas.

That's because they are bio-degradable..

It would be about ten years ago whilst at work, I left our Christmas Lights in a Tesco plastic bag.

The following year the bag disintegrated into tiny fragments when I picked it up.

Most Supermarket bags have been bio-degradable for many years..

It's the Store bags for larger items and clothes that are not bio-degradable.

There is no need for the bag tax.. on supermarket bags..

DulwichFox.

P.S. Since the 'Bag Levy' The Co-op no longer sell the Strong Green Bag for Life bags which were 10p

and could be used over and over again..

Yes but Councils are now putting up cameras and making a lot of money from fines..

We have become a nation of Taxation and Fines..

Foxy

All Labour councils will always create as much misery on the front line whenever the Tories are in central government on principle. So,for example, the dog poo bins are not emptied- and people don't bother picking up. I bought some very cheap caddy bags from wilco btw- they will probably not be good enough for Southwark though....because they don't cost ?5 or whatever for their own ones- yet another tax...

I don't think that's why they split.

Some of the rolls were faulty batches in my opinion. Some are fine.

    • Thanks for your feedback - we always appreciate hearing from members about their experience. The pool temperature at JAGS Sports Club is maintained at 29oC, in line with industry guidelines for mixed-use pools.  This temperature has been designed to balance comfort for lane swimmers and families. Air temperature is also monitored regularly to ensure a comfortable environment for swimmers, spectators and staff. The shower Temperature Mixing Valves (TMVs) were changed in December to improve consistency, and we hope this has made a noticeable difference. If you would like to discuss your experience in more detail, please contact us directly at [email protected] or 020 8613 6500 and we'll be really happy to help.
    • One wonders if he would have defected if he had, ahem, held on to the leadership of Southwark and whether he felt that "Labour are no longer the vehicle for social justice" during his leadership election........my how quickly things change in the thoughts of a politician 😉 I think this sums things up quite nicely: A senior Southwark Labour spokesperson hit back: “Local residents can draw their own conclusions about Cllr McAsh’s swift move from Labour leadership hopeful to the Green Party, after he didn’t get his own way. While he’s thinking about his own career, Southwark Labour are delivering for residents.” One wonders if he will stand as a Green candidate in Goose Green.
    • No doubt if he determines to stand for a ward he will enlighten us - at least his track record is one of using this site to communicate (inter alia). I would suspect that (1) his personal views on traffic will have remained consistent but that (2) his views on local democracy and proper consultation will have as well.
    • Yes, but I want to know where he stands on all this stuff now. My feeling is it won't be any different from Labour?
