advice on BT phone line repair

I can't get a dial-tone on my BT landline (package with broadband, due to expire in Jan). There's nothing wrong with the line according to their testing, and the physical handset rings and msges are being left on 1571 (which I cannot then retract as I can't dial 1571).

Are there private phone line technicians that can look at this? How much do you think they would charge?

BT Sales have told me my options are

- BT engineer visit with cost of ?130 - I would be liable to pay this if fault is internal to my property, so a direct risk and I'm happy *not* to get this repaird;

- Pay ?17.99 pcm line rental for the landline service I'm not getting (3 months - Oct to Jan) when the one-year package expires and I can leave BT without cost;

- Pay an early termination fee of ?108.

Aside from the fact they are 100% disinterested in keeping customers, somewhat more helpfully the BT Faults person suggested I find a local phone-line technician.

Advice please. Thanks alot.

    • Unfortunately not a great job. Work done in a rush and delivered late, issues not addressed and poor communication throughout.

I feel terrified seeing little children wobbling along on the road and would always have rather risked getting into trouble than endangering my child . I once saw a really little child cycling on Lordship Lane with her father and felt so worried I said something - and he told me it was because of people were complaining. In this case it was a tiny child and you weren't injured and nothing was damaged so it seems a bit of an over-reaction. It doesn't seem to me that what the father said to you was particularly rude although if he wasn't supervising I agree that wasn't responsible.
