I managed to resist the yummy biscuits at the coffee morning!! Great meeting - a good mix of informal meeting other parents and then a good discussion with the Headerteacher. She told us they had a short inspection from Ofted last week and they said that the quality of teaching had dramatically improved which was great. Most people at the meeting said they felt happy with the school now, kids were happy and learning - parents of reception kids are very happy with the two reception teachers (new to the school this year but both experienced teachers). We talked about the new school website - which has lots of info on it. http://www.goosegreenprimaryschool.org.uk/

And the Head teacher is very keen on the open day idea - she suggested we have a one or two hour slot (looking at the 1st week in Novemeber) where parents thinking of sending their kids to reception can come and view a class or a segment (like a reading lesson) and then they can have a meeting with the current parents herself and they can ask any questions they like.

So very positive!

I would like to attend an open morning - will it be advertised when you decide on a date?

I called the school to arrange a look around last week but the could only offer one date which I was unable to make. Quite disappointing considering every other local primary I spoke to was able to offer me a range of opportunities to visit the school...

Hi there - the Headteacher along with the reception teachers will be setting a date this week - it should be set by the PTA meeting which is next Tuesday evening at 6pm. It's envisioned that the open session will be organised so that propspective parents can view an actual reception teaching setting, have a chance to talk to the Head directly and also meet current parents whose children are in reception.

It's my understanding that you can ring up and make an individual appointment to go and be shown around the school. When I was shown around Goose Green last year, I was shown around by a teacher as well as being able to talk to students. (a couple of the other primary schools just had it so you were shown around by a year 6 student) I found very helpful as is a limit to what the students could answer at the other primary schools that I went to see - for example about teaching methods, curriculam matters, etc. etc.

Anyway, I'd check with the office again if you want an individual appointment to be shown around the school - it might be they thought you were coming to see the maths curriculam evening which is next week perhaps?

And yes, the date will be advertised here on the forum when it is set - envisioned for the first week of November after half term. Also will be posters displayed in the area via the PTA network.

Great, thanks. Look forward to hearing details of the open session.

I was very clear with the person I spoke to that my daughter was due to start reception next year and that was why I wanted to view the school, however, they only had a single date available for this and no further sessions determined.

If it's ok, I've PM'd you with some other questions about the school. Hope that's ok...

Re: appointments to tour the Goose Green Primary and Nursery School

I spoke to the head this morning and tours are being organised by demand. She did three last week and they try not to have more than three parents per tour. There will also be an open day.

So, please try again if you are interested in a tour. Any probs, please PM me and I'll try and help.

Best, Dagmar

    • yes, inside looks like a squeeze, we went in early summer and sat outside, really nice way to spend the evening and watch the world (and knackered commuters) go by.
    • Good luck with this - there have been several requests over the years by students needing to do infant observations.  I was lucky when I did mine  - way back in 1994 at a local nursery. Have you tried contacting the NCT to see if there are any local groups who would be willing to participate? As a mother of 2 - found the observation very informative - mine was a 2 year old child as my course stated a child under 3. Got my highest grade for this project so was very happy.
    • Happy birthday! I've just read a bunch of your reviews and really enjoyed it. You write Interestingly without being too ornate, and you manage to give a really good insight into the "vibe" of a place as well as the food. Totally agree with your review of Rocca - it's simple, great food in a friendly atmosphere at a completely reasonable price, esp considering the location.
    • Hello,  I am a 52-year old mother and an integrative counsellor who lives and works in West Dulwich, SE21. In mid January I am starting a new training in Parent Infant Psychotherapy (helping parents to bond with their babies), and a key component of the course is a 24-month infant observation.  I’m looking for someone who will be giving birth ideally in January or February and who would allow me to observe their baby for one hour a week until the baby’s second birthday. The baby can be awake or asleep, playing, feeding, eating or interacting with carer/s and family members - whatever they normally do at that time.  The purpose of the observation is to enable me to gain a thorough knowledge of very early infant development and to develop the capacity to maintain an observationally minded and non-judgemental attitude in my work as an infant-parent psychotherapist.  I will provide enhanced DBS clearance and I’m happy to answer any questions.  Please forward this email to anyone who might be interested, email me at [email protected] or call me on 07949716043. I would be extremely grateful for any leads. Many thanks,  Millie  Millie Burton, MBACP Integrative Counsellor [email protected] millieburton.com
