I agree with Loz. Terrorists want us to be afraid and affected. In reality they are small in number and can never really threaten our way of life. They don't have an army big enough. That doesn't help those who are murdered of course, but containment is the only defence we have at home. Sadly some plots are always going to get through, but in reality more people die in car accidents every year than do from attrocious attacks like those in Paris. We need to keep a sense of perspective and make sure the security services have everything they need to keep us as safe as possible.

Utter nonsense Blah Blah.. Small in number ?

70 years ago 1 man created a machine so vast it resulted in the deaths of millions of men, women and children globally.

That was an ideology such as we face today from a different group of extremists.

Some of which may well be already amongst us.

Hitler. The Nazis.

Are you one of those in denial about the Holocaust ?

And the millions of Russians that died.

Was a long time ago

Lest we forget

Foxy

This is not about you.

LAST NIGHT over 100 civilians lost their lives.

People have been effected by this event in one way or another, but Of course, some people are just so wrapped up in their own lives that not only does this point go straight over your heads but, of all the ways someone could choose to entertain themselves this evening, it had to be standing in their soggy back garden replicating the sound of gunshots.

Many events this evening have cancelled fireworks for this very reason.

It's inappropriate.

Every year, a few weeks before and after Bonfire night, fireworks are regularly let off, probably no more than hijinks from youngsters. The people who died in Paris were mainly young adults, out enjoying themselves, I'm sure they wouldn't want people to stop doing that, life has to go on otherwise the terrorists have won...

I think Foxy may have meant a killing machine.

I agree with OP, out of respect fireworks should not have been let off but it is individuals choice and so offence shoukd not be taken because others do not share same view.

Let the poster that Foxy aimed the comment at take offence if he/she chooses, dont stir the s#+t against Foxy.

Far too much 'offence' being banded around willy nilly. 127 people have judt been murdered across the channel, now that is offensive.

"Couldn't agree more! And calling someone a holocaust denier is grossly offensive IMO"

I was going to stand Foxy up for this one but I know he couldn't possibly mean it, regardless of whether he actually wrote it. So I'll take the insult on the chin, even though it was completely undeserved (ie . How can you deny the h

This was the conversation..

I was thinking nuclear weapons but the figure you state is grossly over the death count from that machine.

Oh I see Foxy, when you say machine you mean regime - with you now.

All sorted..

No malice intended..

I believe that no malice was intended. But probably would have been better if it had gone like this.

    • Are there any other executors? Is the solicitor a soke practioner or part of a firm? Are you and your fellow beneficiaries behaving well?  You will want to take proper  legal advice (which this is not) but you can have an executor removed by the court if they are refusing to communicate with you. I would just do that. Tell him you are doing it, tell him you have reported him to the Law Society (if you have) and tell him you will be challenging his fees with the legal services ombudsman. This all sounds outrageous to me and this solicitor doesn't sound fit to practice. Three years sounds far too long for a low value estate comprising mostly of a house. He should have sold that or rented it out whilst he was waiting to administer the estate.    Sounds like he has cost you all a lot of money.
    • Would wholeheartedly recommend Aria. Quality work, very responsive, lovely guy as well.
    • A positive update from Southwark Council - “We are currently updating our Enforcement Policy and changes will allow for the issuing of civil penalties ranging from £175 to £300 for visible smoke emissions, replacing the previous reliance on criminal prosecution.“
    • A solicitor is acting as the executor for our late Aunt's will.  He only communicates by letter which is greatly lengthening the process.  The vast majority of legal people deal by modern means - the Electronic Communications Act that allows for much, if not all of these means is now 25 years old.   Any views and advice out there? In fuller detail: The value of the estate is not high.  There are a number of beneficiaries including one in the US.  It has taken almost three years and there is no end in sight.  The estate (house) is now damp, mouldy and wall paper falling off the wall. The solicitor is hostile, has threatened beneficiaries the police (which would just waste the police's time), and will not engage constructively. He only communicates by letter.  These are poorly written, curt or even hostile, in a language from the middle of last century, he clearly is typing these himself probably on a type writer.  Of course with every letter he makes more money. We've taken the first steps to complain either through the ombudsman and/or the SRA.  We have taken legal advice a couple of times, which of course isn't cheap, and were told that his behaviour is shocking and we'd be in our right to have him removed through the courts. But.... we just want him to get on with executing the will, primarily selling the house. However he refuses to use any other form of communication but letter.  So writing to the beneficiary in the 'States can take a month to get a reply. And even in this country a week or more. Having worked with lawyers in the past I am aware that email, tele and video conferencing and even text and WhatApp are appropriate means for communication.  There could be an immediate response to his questions.   Help!
