The Bigger Picture film club ? ?Whiplash? (2014) at East Dulwich Tavern on 19 November 2015

The Bigger Picture film club will be showing ? ?Whiplash? (2014) at 8pm on Thursday, 19 November 2015, Upstairs at East Dulwich Tavern.

Andrew (Miles Teller) is a talented, dedicated 19-year-old drummer at the fictional Schaffer Conservatory of Music in New York City. Fletcher, his ruthless teacher, uses any means possible to push students to achieve more than is expected of them.

Andrew is desperate to win the approval of Fletcher. He yearns to be one of the ?greats? but regards his teacher as the only arbiter whose opinion he can trust. Fletcher is endlessly cruel and sarcastic - and has a tremendous knack for vicious, expletive-filled put-downs. The more time Andrew spends with Fletcher, the more he takes on his affectations. He is even prepared to ditch his long-suffering girlfriend (Melissa Benoist), because she will get in the way of his career. As in all such Oedipal tales, the only way the student can emerge as a musician in his own right is by destroying the father figure.

Directed by Damien Chazelle with Miles Teller, JK Simmons, Melissa Benoist

    • 22/9 MISSING CAT: her name is CJ, she’s got a very distinctive round face. She lives on Jerningham road. We usually let her out with a collar that has a tracker but unfortunately last night she went out without it on 😭 and now she hasn’t come home.  She’s usually very scared of sudden noises and cars so she’s not one to roam on main streets but more across gardens. She also got stuck on a tree once and was too scared to jump down. If you see a ginger cat in your garden or tree, or anywhere near SE14 5NH then please dm me. Thank you so much Edit: she is chipped and neutered    please call 07467 901 578 or bring her to the vets to get scanned
    • Colin painted a bathroom ceiling for me at very short notice, fitting it in over the weekend to meet my sudden deadline. His quote and final price were fair and reasonable and he  tidied up throughly; I didn't spot any paint drops on the bathroom furniture or floor. Thank you Colin!
    • Hello, I have seen several reviews written about Piplings Nursery from a number of years ago now. I would be keen to hear from any parents who have dealt with them more recently as we are interested in sending our son there.  Many thanks!
