edhistory
It must be difficult to manage a modern life if you are not allowed to be on the Electoral Roll.In search of "hawthorn hedges" I re-read the 1989 ecological field study of One Tree Hill.On the top of the hill is some "relict acid grassland".Apparently this is rare stuff that can be destroyed by one tree in the wrong place. It might be necessary to cut back some trees/bushes/shrubs to the 1989 habitat disposition.John K Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/84090-trees-to-be-cut-down-on-one-tree-hill-act-now/page/2/#findComment-931618 Share on other sites
edhistory
I forgot the bibliographical reference:London Ecology Unit, Nature Conservation In Southwark, Ecology Handbook 12, 1989, 1-871045-08-8It's a rare book now, but Southwark Libraries should be able to lend a copy. edborders
Dear John K. The Hawthorne Hedge was on Woodvale in Camberwell Old Cemetery. And Mr. Kennedy, I would appreciate an apology for your saying I have no right to participate in local affairs because i am a recent arrival. I pay taxes, both council, income, and VAT. I found that comment typical of your style of discussion on this forum> it is totally unacceptable. If no apology is forthcoming, I will consider other actions. edhistory
That's why I am not progressing the hawthorn hedge assertion. You say it is no longer there. There is a record of the remains of a firethorn hedge. HopOne
That is the disappointing response from the Friends of One Tree Hill (Local Nature Reserve) who seem, AFAICT, to have based their ecological assessment on Southwark's own submissions. They make a valid point about Holm Oak but ignore the effect on the local environment or even the Hill itself.Have you seen the London iTree eco report? Very relevant I think especially when you consider flood water runoff and carbon sequestration.http://www.forestry.gov.uk/london-itree Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/84090-trees-to-be-cut-down-on-one-tree-hill-act-now/page/2/#findComment-936612 Share on other sites

dbboy
I'm getting a chain saw and starting now to cut them ALL down so it really does become a HILL with One Tree. HopOne
Already noted. Am not sure why this invalidates the methodology for a London report. I did not say it was specific to this area but the conclusions are still pertinent in my view.
