Can you recommend a good building company and handyman?

Hi, I know that plenty of people have already recommended here some building companies / handymen services but I would appreciate if you could help me :)

We have just moved in to the new semi-detached house in East Dulwich. There are plenty of small things around the house to fix / walls to be repainted etc which we want to complete before Christmas (I know, not much time left!) and for the next year (starting in February) we want to invest in Loft Conversion and possibly Basement Conversion (depending on the costs). Do you know any builders / companies worth contacting? I would rather a small, local company which takes care of their clients.

Thank you for your help!

Hi, I would highly recommend Charlie O'Brien. He has lived in the local area all his life and currently him and his dad ( family business ) work all around the South east London area ( they are based in Nunhead ). He is really reliable, and a hard worker, they are able to do both small jobs and larger projects ( like loft conversions and complete refurbs). I don't know what his schedule is at the moment but I would suggest just giving him a call. His number is 07875442992 and if you wanted to see some of his work he has recently opened a Facebook page under Charlie O'Brien Cpob

Hi I can highly recommend Eddie, for any handyman jobs, he takes care of the maintenance on my rented properties. Eddie can do everything from painting and decorating, Plastering, tiling, and most minor plumbing jobs.

Hi AnnaD88

I would like to recommend a good plumber if that is of any use to you. He works all over the Dulwich area,(and beyond) and we have used him a lot over the years, and he has never let us down.

His name is Rick Foster and his number is : 07860633220

Hi Anna, I would recommend Lifestyle Design and Build for all services. They are a building company but they also offer handyman services, therefore, they would be a perfect choice for you. After they completed a loft conversion in my house, I have hired them a couple of times for random small jobs and I have always been pleased with the quality of their work. They are not a huge company, that's why they really care about their clients! Visit their website: www.lifestylebyasq.co.uk or call them 02077203082.

Regards,

Claire :)

    • There are two causes for this problem Β  The first is that modern safety requirements for cars (to protect pedestrians and cyclists in collisions) mean huge amounts of excess spacing in crumple zones to provide a cushion on impact. For example, in the past a lot of pedestrians suffered catastrophic head injuries when they ran in front of a car, because the bonnet was close to the engine block, so their heads bent the bonnet into the solid immovable engine and their heads cam off worse. To mitigate that there is now a huge amount of flex and space so that the head is cushioned from the engine. Naturally, the rest of the body work and car frame has had to increase to accommodate this safety measure. Β  The second issue is electrification. Β  Electric cars are massive because they have to carry huge batteries around to make them work. Massive amounts of space and height is given over to batteries in electric cars. The new electric Renault 5 (described as a "compact" hatch back) is nearly 4 metres long 2 metres wide.Β  Β  That makes it longer and wider than the original Range Rover.Β
    • Pretentious status vehicles.Β  Last year I was trying to drive down my own street but, being in a little, inferior car, was expected to make way for a stream of SUVs / Chelsea tractors as they barged along beside me. After what felt like an age, I saw a window of opportunity, but was beaten to it by yet another tank. By this stage I was irate (I hate the things) and having a full on shouting match with myself behind the wheel.Β  A Tesla in the oncoming queue pulled in, flashed and courteously allowed me to take my moment. The Tesla's windows were tinted, but not so much that I wasn't able to make out the driver, as I passed him. I'd recognise that mega-watt smile anywhere. It was Peter Crouch, laughing and giving me the thumbs up, clearly entertained by my tantrum.Β
    • I recently had a utility room built, next to the kitchen. Dean Richards and his team carried out the works, they did a fantastic job. Thorough, with attention to every detail.Β  If you are considering an extension, refurbishment or renovation, Dean comes highly recommended.Β  Dean RichardsΒ  07888 651798 Β
