And none by the 'will of the people' - infact all by war/conquest/Dodgy alliances

I share your dream, all of you I'm not actually stupid enough not to see how great it 'would be'.... but am capable of seeing that it is that, just a dream. Theory and practice are miles apart. It is just airy fairy idealism. Seriously admit that and move on to something practical.....

So basically we want all the benefits without letting anyone else benefit from it?

I think that's called having your cake and eating it, or being told to bog off as it's otherwise known.

Either be in or be out, can't have it half way.

Plus i really don't get a say in how this country is run (especially if 'No' wins tomorrow) so choose your poison Europe or Westminster basically; and I'm probably alone in this, give me a committee thrashing out compromises, over the presidential powers of the PM any day; long gone are the days of local privileges I'm afraid (unless it's being allowed to roll a cheese down a hill once a year).

What aspects of Europe would you like to be part of, Ridgley?

Other things to ponder: What would be the cost of being on the outside, looking in? Of not having the right to freedom of movement of goods, since Europe is our biggest trading partner? How much of what we pay in European bureaucracy would just be spent on UK bureaucracy anyway?

Loss of freedom of travel? Expect a massive return of very unhappy retirees from Spain and the south of France! (With a lots of Spanish and French there to wave goodbye at the airport and to make sure they didn't miss their plane...)

Most of the ways 'we are told to govern our country' involves incorporating the standards necessary to trade with Europe, so we're sort of stuck with that (since they would be bigger than us, we'd still be dancing to their tune). A lot of human rights stuff blamed on the EU have nothing to do with it at all, but a different and separate accord with the European Court of Human Rights.

I understand both points the aspect I like about Europe, you have mentioned in your thread freedom of movement etc???.. But what I am not comfortable about is the human rights yes I am for it in Principal but I feel it is sometimes abused there has been high profile cases regarding the human rights law. How does France and Italy get way with picking and choosing which of the law they wish to up hold and other laws they ignore I find it all mind boggling?

    • "Sitting around doing job related things". Do you mean sitting and doing their jobs? "have you had your COVID jabs?" Perhaps instead of spending your time on here insulting other posters, in this case me, you would be more effectively employed contacting the practice management with a detailed description of exactly what you say you saw and when. And then see what they say. You have made a lot of assumptions with presumably absolutely no idea what those people's jobs are or when their break times are. I am not defending the practice, which seems to have some problems  I just don't like seeing people who aren't here to defend themselves being publicly attacked by someone who apparently doesn't actually know what those people were doing and why.
    • Relatively recently, they employed a couple of young people on front desk work they were excellent. I don’t know if they’re still there. And yes, they may be doing something on their computers that’s important but when you see  people queuing and no one appearing for many minutes the system seems inefficient.  Some simple changes could make a big difference.  But those changes would have to come from management rather than individual workers choosing to jump up and help.
    • I'm happy not seeing a GP face to face.  I had WhatsApp video appointments a couple of years ago, which ended up with me being rightly sent to Tommies A and E.  I see nurses from time to time at TJ, I always have a good laugh with both them and the blood test people.  I see the practice nurse at FH from time to time and it feels like visiting an old friend. I'm not sure whether social media has made us a more negative nation, or it just feels this way due to some of you who post on this forum.  The majority of posts in ED matters and on the transport thread are complaints  How would you define lazy and useless?  There is a spectrum of productivity, and of customer service.  Some excel at one or both, but I'm not sure at what point workers drop below an acceptable level.  When I am unhappy I will complain to an organisation. Some respond better than others.  One of my first posts over a decade was to complain about a local shop.  It's a funny anecdote which is essentially a "Ok you don't want my money so I'll go and spend many 100s of pounds at a different company" but I regret not dealing directly with the shop rather than getting pointless revenge many years later.  Still won't use the shop though.
    • Now as an ex patient my impression was that their is a general lack of accountability  or responsibility by the staff at FHRGP and heaven forbid you should disagree with them, "not allowed". They want total control with no scrutiny. How that practice survives, I really don't know.  That being said, two or three of the staff are excellent.
