Having just bought a computer for my son I have found the initial set-up, privacy set-up, gaming set-up a complete minefield!! I am also continually being asked can I connect, can I have a you tube account, can I have an email account...it goes on and on...I have no idea what is safe, what to look out for etc...

Our school has started to take this seriously and has done some great work on e-safety but think there may be a market out there for 1:1 or small group workshops to work through these issues with parents and children.

Maybe a course with 5/6 hands on sessions setting up your computer safely, a session on Facebook, one on minecraft, one on email etc..so we cld learn how it works and how to do it safely.

We are probably not a target market as we don't have much money but it seems to be a really important emerging subject for tutors to cover?....just a thought...

I think it's great idea. Computers have changed so much since we were young! (Anyone else grow-up with an Apple IIe?) Plus social media and games have exploded in the last decade.

Are any local libraries offering something like this? This could be combined with other basic tech skills to make a course that would run over a few of weekends, or afterschool.

    • It was indeed in the vicinity of DKH. I live on the ED estate and I could tell it must be close by because of the noise. When I left my house this morning I found the culprits litter still in the middle of the st. It looked like they had lit a whole box on fire in the middle of the road. My cat jumped out of her skin. I’ll try and report it on Southwark website same as I have had to with other illegal use this week. Any other ideas for what we can do with the photos? Maybe one of the Southwark councillors. It’s outrageous and dangerous behaviour.
    • Had another great meal there…. those that haven’t tried it, give it a go.. have a special lunch menu as well so you can get a flavour of the food.
    • If you "cotton on" and read the council announcement, it clearly states "The library will be closed from 17 November until late June or early July 2026."  https://www.southwark.gov.uk/2025/dulwich-library-closing-refurbishment
    • I’ve been seeing Lisa at goose green clinic for energy work for a year now.  Lisa is kind, caring and hugely supportive. She is wonderfully masterful and trained as a reiki master for 20 plus years. Alongside other energy work.  My time spent with her is like therapy. An emotional safe space for deep conversations and reflection followed by relaxing and energising healing work.  each experience I’ve had has been different, the end result remains the same. Feel lighter, almost euphoric and almost float home. Definitely an experience not to be missed.  https://www.goosegreenclinic.net/therapies/healing-energy-work/
