malumbu
I am replacing my 1980s model having at last sorted out some storage place for my record collection. I plan to use it with my original amp, lovely 1950s speakers, but the analogue tuner and tape player will go!Meant to go to Richer sounds yesterday and may still pop in tomorrow. Any advice? Not sure why I would want a USB model (amp just takes raw wire input). What else has changed in the last three decades?Plan up to a couple of hundred, I understand that this is nowhere near top of the range, but I doubt whether my record collection is in great condition! Huggers
I got a dancette 1960's just to sustain my remaining record collection. Now if only I could beef it up with some louder speakers.... mancity68
Our house has an extravagant Acpustic Solutions turntable and a more user friendly Linn (which I'd like to sell). If I was going for a simple entry level decent turntable I'd go for Pro-Ject Elemental. Gets the Which? Best buy and is around ?150. Jeremy
Project and Rega are the names you consistently hear when it comes to entry level turntables. But with all your retro gear, what you really want is a nice refurbished Garrard 401! Quality piece of engineering and a real centrepiece. miga
The project essential is a good one, with decent cartridge included. 200 squids at Richer atm.The days of getting a bargain quality second hand turntable (or records for that matter) seem to be in the past - eBay sellers know the value of such things. miga
Which one did you get malumbu - the RP1? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/88216-advice-on-a-new-turntable/#findComment-966159 Share on other sites
malumbu
Bottom of the range RP1Playing with a 1982 amp, 1950s speakers, 1997 CD player and 2016 turntable. Still sounds good though.I binned by 1985 tape deck and my 1970s tuner. No valves sadly....Nice to go to a specialist and talk it through. Richer Sounds were OK but not as helpful Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/88216-advice-on-a-new-turntable/#findComment-966226 Share on other sites
