Hi Jane,

Thank you for your kind words! Our first issue will come out on May 6th, which coincides with the start of this year's Dulwich Festival.

Like The Peckham Peculiar, we will be stocked by local shops, pubs, bars and cafes - we hope to have around 100 stockists (if not more!).

We'll make sure that we'll have an updated list of our stockists online (at http://dulwichdiverter.tumblr.com) - this information will be available from the weekend we come out.

Finally, a quick update on our crowdfunding...

So far, we've raised ?6,658 thanks to 98 generous backers! ?1,285 has come via the East Dulwich Forum so a huge thanks to all who've backed us! If you're interested in seeing what our plans for the newspaper are, please go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/peckhampeculiar/the-dulwich-diverter-a-free-local-community-newspa/

Many thanks,

Mark and Kate and all at The Dulwich Diverter

Hi all,

A quick update on The Dulwich Diverter...

We now have 117 backers (and almost ?1.3k of funding has come via the East Dulwich Forum) so a huge thanks to all who've backed us!

We've already reached our minimum target (and we've still got 30 days to go) so all of the additional money will be invested into increased circulation and/or helping produce future editions, and keeping the project alive throughout 2016 and beyond.

Hi everyone,

Issue one of The Dulwich Diverter officially launches on May 5th, but we've distributed a couple of hundred early copies this afternoon! You can pick them up at about 15 places across Dulwich, including Chener Books, Hop Burns & Black, The Palmerston, Roullier White and Rye Books.

Hope you enjoy reading it!

Kate, Mark and all at The Dulwich Diverter

I picked it up on Saturday and enjoyed it cover to cover, congratulations on a massive achievement.

There's room to be more provocative, creative, alternative and exploratory in the space outside the existing local free press and I hope you grow into that sort of direction.

Congratulations, good luck and keep it up please.

Obviously we can't guarantee that all our stockists will still have copies, so please do check in advance to avoid a wasted journey.

We'll also be delivering more copies to our stockists next weekend, so if you?re a local business and would like to stock our free paper, please email [email protected] and we'll pop by.

    • Great shout. They do need the extra fat when it’s winter, but don’t use fat balls from April as they are dangerous for nestlings as the babies can choke on lumps of the fat. When it gets milder switch to suet pellets as they are harder and don’t melt (the grease is bad for feathers.
    • Rather alarmist. There is unlikely to be snow this week, but even if there is that is natural and wildlife adjust accordingly. There are fewer insects to eat due to what humans have done to the planet over the decades.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decline_in_insect_populations  In particular: Habitat Loss and Fragmentation: Agricultural Chemicals: Climate Change: Pollution: Invasive Species: There is even a case for not feeding birds due to the spread of disease through feeders, greenfinch population was decimated.   https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2025/jan/24/should-we-stop-feeding-birds-what-happens-if-we-do-and-does-it-spread-disease   I do feed the birds but keeping a watching eye on the evidence.   And I try to grow insect and bird friendly plants including attempts at a meadow.   There could also be an argument for not keeping cats as these may decimate bird populations.   https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/aug/14/cats-kill-birds-wildlife-keep-indoors   You will need squirrel proof feeders and even then you may have the starlings and green squwaky things eating most of the food left out for small birds.
    • Apparently this year due to the weather there are fewer insects for the birds to eat. So please if you don’t usually buy fat balls & seeds to put out (in safe places to avoid the cats ) a plentiful supply . They really need it this year, especially with snow forecast later this week.    Thankyou
    • I hope she and the rider of the bike are ok. I feel its understandable that locals may be concerned when they see a road taped off and police presence.
