Cycle Safe & Strong: Cycle Training for Children & Adults in Dulwich!

About Us

We created Cycle Safe & Strong due to the pressing need for more bespoke on and off-road cycle training in London. We are both fully accredited National Standards Cycling Instructors with a strong passion for cycling both as a method of transport but also as a recreational activity. We have a wealth of knowledge and experience in delivering cycle training in London, having coached several hundred individuals. We deliver personalised training sessions to both groups or individuals who wish to develop their cycling skills. We cater for riders of all ages and offer sessions to complete beginners right the way up to very experienced riders. We are also DBS/ CRB-cleared and First Aid trained.

What We Offer

I. Weekend, half-term & holiday group courses for children who are non-riders or those new to cycling

This course covers learning to ride for the first time and bike control skills such as using gears and signaling. The course also covers learning to ride in a group and prepares trainees for riding on the road. This course is run on Sundays (fortnightly) and during holiday periods. Two instructors will always be present for this course.

II. On-road courses for children who are more experienced riders

This course covers how to ride on local roads through teaching trainees about positioning on the road, rules of the road, and how to negotiate junctions and roundabouts. This course includes ?fun rides? to destinations of interest in the local area. Two instructors will always be present for this course.

III. Bespoke 1-to-1 cycle training for both children and adults

This is more personalised training which can include route planning and supported rides to & from work or school. These sessions can also cover basic maintenance skills such as learning to fix punctures and replacing inner tubes.

Please note: Trainees need to bring their own bikes and helmets.

Dear Readers,

We had fantastic first cycling training sessions on Sunday 28th February.

As there are still some remaining places on both training courses, there is still the opportunity to sign up for either session.

Now, in order to qualify for the Beginners Course, riders must already be able to balance and ride a bike.

For those still interested in the on-road course, riders must already have good control skills and be able to signal with either hand. If riders can demonstrate these skills, we will be happy to enrol them on the on-road course.

The next sessions will run this Sunday 13th March (see last post for session times) so please let us know if you are interested.

Best wishes,

Barnaby & Dean

    • I've noticed the foxes are very frisky at the moment, it's mating season. Perhaps it was a male fox who saw you as a danger to his vixen and wanted to see you off.
    • I’m not sure how many other people have experienced this; but both me and one of my friends have the same story. Around Crawthew Grove and Crystal Palace Road: I was followed by a large fox right on my heel. At first I didn’t notice because I had my headphones on, but then I noticed my shadow had an extra lump in it, funnily enough, it was a fox, very very close to my feet. Even if I sped up walking it just tried to get closer - it was quite frightening actually, it was quite clear that it wanted to nip me. I didn’t know what to do so, I started to reprimand the fox and walked slowly away from it, facing it - which it didn’t seem to like and backed off a bit. I then proceeded to speed-walk away.   Quite frankly, the whole situation was quite embarrassing and a little bit frightful as I’d never had a fox even come up to me. I’ve heard of particularly curious foxes that might come up to someone who beckons them, and maybe even bite that person, but I’ve never heard of a fox chasing someone. The amount of confidence that it had was incredible.    When it happened, I was on the way to see some friends, and once I had told one of them, she told me the same thing happened to her.  if anyone else knows anything about this bitey fox then let me know!
    • Another recommendation for Andy. I needed an old kitchen removed as an emergency. Andy came over quickly and did a fantastic job. I have used Andy a few times. He is punctual, helpful and always does an  excellent job.
