Nattaliec
Hi. I'm considering buying a house on Pellatt road and wondered if there's any noise issues from the Royal Mail depot on the end of the street? We would be about 5 doors down on the opposite side of the street to it and would have double glazing. If anyone could help advise on any noise issues it would be much appreciated. Many thanks Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/89774-noise-disturbance-on-pellatt-road-from-royal-mail-depot/ Share on other sites
James Barber
Hi Nattaliec,As a local councillor I used to get several complaints a year. I'd complain to Royal Mail and it seemed to get a little better. But with the removal of early morning post deliveries I no longer get any complaints. This doesn't mean no disturbance. If I was you I'd knock on the neighbours houses of the house you plan to buy and be frank and ask them their recent experiences. And don't forgot in the summer you might want to have open windows over night so ask about what it's like in the hot summer months. Hope this helps. motorbird83
I live on Pellatt Road very near to the sorting office and only a few doors down from the house I know is for sale on that stretch. I've lived there since 2013 (after the old thread) and I think as James Barber indicated the situation must have improved. I don't notice the noise at all. I asked my husband who is much more sensitive to noise and he said he can sometimes hear a lorry unloading or loading but the noise never lasts more than a few minutes and is at most once or twice a day. Its never woken him up or kept him up and he's quite sensitive to these things. Like I said, I don't recall noticing it all. I'm more bothered by people occasionally walking home late or builders stood out on the street who are doing work on nearby houses. PM if you'd like to know anything more about the street and good luck with your purchase. Nattaliec
Many thanks everyone. We'll be taking an early morning trip to see what it's like. I can definitely cope better with morning noise than i can with it in the evening so hopefully all will be ok. Will be doing some knocking on doors too to see how the neighbours get on with it. Looking forward to hopefully moving to the area soon! Hawley
Much of what noise disturbance there is comes from some of the British Gas engineers who pick up bits and pieces from the sorting office in the morning. Many enjoy sitting in their vans with their diesel engines rattling away, seemingly blissfully ignorant of the "Generation Green" initiative currently being run by the company...Compared to them the posties are like Trappist monks.
