Inspired by hearing Big Bill Broonzy and Ramblin? Jack Elliot, Wizz Jones learnt his guitar licks from the likes of Davy Graham and Long John Baldry whilst playing in the coffee bars of London?s Soho in the late 1950?s.

He then followed the time-honoured buskers? trail from the streets of Paris to the markets of Marrakech during the early 1960?s and returned to Britain with a unique acoustic guitar style,

an eclectic repertoire and a ?right hand worthy of Broonzy?!

John Renbourn, Clapton and Keith Richards have all named him as an important early influence and in May 2012 Bruce Springsteen opened his Berlin show with Wizz?s song ?When I Leave Berlin?.

After more than 50 years ?on the road? Wizz continues to tour on the Acoustic Folk and Blues circuit, usually solo but sometimes with his Son Simeon on Sax, Flute and Harmonica.?

City Ramblers Revival are named after the famous late 50?s group the City Ramblers, regulars on BBC Radio and TV?s Six Five Special, and resident band of the Skiffle Cellar, Soho.

They recorded for Tempo Records and Storyville and played at the Moscow International Youth Festival in 1957. Today, CRR are Hylda Sims (guitar/vocals), Simon Prager (guitar/vocals) and Doc Stenson (guitar/mouth harp/vocals).

Hylda Sims, a founder member of the original City Ramblers, writes songs, poetry and novels and hosts Fourth Friday, an acoustic music and poetry event at the Poetry Cafe in Covent Garden.

Simon Prager & Doc Stenson, excellent musicians and entertainers, are veterans of the acoustic blues and folk scene in the UK.

Joe Wilkes is a fantastic singer songwriter whom Americana UK has said is ?one of those all-too-rare musicians who, when they play, make you believe in them instantly.? . Joe has been playing around London , the USA and Europe for a number of years. He lives in south london,

    • Hello! We are relocating abroad and so will be withdrawing our two children (ages 4 and 6) from St Dunstan’s College (Catford). If any family is considering enrolling children of a similar age, now would be an excellent opportunity—we’re required to pay full‑term fees unless the places are taken. Please get in touch if you’re interested or know someone who might be. Thank you!

    • Thanks for your reply. I’ve subscribed to Ancestry a few times in the past but felt I wasn’t using it enough to warrant keeping up the subscription.
    • Hi, I saw your post and just wanted to say that the incident you’re referring to did happen in the late 1980s at Dawson’s Heights. The person involved was named Carl Salawa, and he had just turned 18 years old at the time. Like you, I haven’t been able to find any news articles or official reports about it, If anyone remembers anything more about that time or incident, I’d really appreciate hearing about it. Thanks for sharing what you were told—it means a lot to know others remember.
