Running - Peckham Rye Common

Hi all,

I know there are a couple of running clubs in the Dulwich Park/Dulwich Village area, but there doesn't seem to be any organised groups based around Peckham Rye Park/Common, even though it's a hub for runners. Myself and a couple of friends are toying with the idea of starting something up, but I thought I'd send out a feeler first to see if the interest is there. The initial idea would be to meet a couple of times a week and go out in a couple of different groups running at different speeds/distances. It would just be casual to start off, but if the desire is there, we could start to going to a range of races together and organising car shares etc.

It would be great if I could get peoples thoughts, and obviously let me know if you think there's already a saturation of running clubs in the area.

Cheers,

Anthony

Hi both,

Yeah, I know about the Parkrun, but this is a weekly race. I was wanting to get a group of people who could train together regularly. But it might be a very good idea to make those who do the Parkrun aware of the group if we do set one up.

I've had a chat with a few people and no one seems to say it's a bad idea. I'll continue to do a little more research and update you if something gets off the ground.

Cheers,

Anthony

Hi, i have been searching for running groups around the Peckham Rye area (rather than formal running clubs). Did anyhing come about as a result of your february post Anthony?

Is there any interest from others in some sort of running group, whether as a beginner or training for events / races?

Thanks

Tim

    • +1 for Oddbods They ran 4 jobs around the house and are just really good guys. I am now looking around the house to see what else we can ask them to do...
    • You could also hire a circular saw from the Library of Things inside the Dulwich Leisure Centre?
    • I was bitten by a smallish dog (black terrier type), in lead, yesterday afternoon (Monday 2 March, approx 1.15pm) at the corner of Heber Road and Cyrena Road.  Nothing too serious, but I have a small wound on my calf and a hole in my jeans. The owner (a middle aged woman) couldn't control her dog, pretended it didn't happen and did a runner.  I managed to take a picture of her as she walked away.  Not a great picture but if you recognise her could you please DM some info so I can report the incident?  If only to ensure that she is spoken to, as this is obviously a dangerous dog and is not under control... Many thanks.
    • I've got no wish to discuss this  again. I've already given my views on a previous  thread in the lounge. I take it you won't be voting Green, but I'm wondering quite where you are coming from with all these attacks on them? Where do your political sympathies lie?  This thread was supposed to be about James McAsh's move away from Labour 🙄 Anyway, it is hopefully another nice day and I'm off to do some gardening.
