Pumping up car tyres.

Pugwash

Recommended Posts

I have a friend who has partial hearing who finds it difficult to pump up her car tyres as she cannot hear the bleep of the air pressure machine. Also due to arthritis finds it difficult at times to bend down.

She usually has to go out with her husband who calls out when the correct pressure is reached. Hubby is now getting more housebound and cannot be relied upon. She was informed when having new tyres fitted by the tyre place in Barry Road, that she could always go to them for pumping. Since they have gone - not sure where to go

Ideas please.

My friend had to go up Knights Hill today and noticed the garage by the traffic lights had the old fashioned air pumps, so on her way back she popped in there. Only problem as that she ended up with 2 40p tokens as time was not sufficient for the 4 wheels. Does not really want to go that far each time. Will tell her about Grove Vale - do they charge?

    • Hello! We are relocating abroad and so will be withdrawing our two children (ages 4 and 6) from St Dunstan’s College (Catford). If any family is considering enrolling children of a similar age, now would be an excellent opportunity—we’re required to pay full‑term fees unless the places are taken. Please get in touch if you’re interested or know someone who might be. Thank you!

    • Hi, I saw your post and just wanted to say that the incident you’re referring to did happen in the late 1980s at Dawson’s Heights. The person involved was named Carl Salawa, and he had just turned 18 years old at the time. Like you, I haven’t been able to find any news articles or official reports about it, If anyone remembers anything more about that time or incident, I’d really appreciate hearing about it. Thanks for sharing what you were told—it means a lot to know others remember.
